This is a must every time we go to North Conway. A simple iStroll on their website and you will know what you’re in for: freshly earthly goodness. The salads are practically meal-size so one is good for two persons as an appetizer. All ingredients are always fresh, crispy when warranted and the taste, the taste. Did I mention the taste? And then, the pizzas. These guys have artfully mastered the “less is more” motto by building minimalist pies that pack a house full of flavor. Did I mention the taste? They also have a great tap microbrew beer selection and the wine list is short but to the point. Oh, and the price is right too. What more can you ask for? They also have a prime location right in the Portland (ME) Old Port district and we are going there as soon as we get a chance. Flatbread rocks! And rolls!

We arrived late on a Friday evening and were told that we would have a 45 minute wait. 20 minutes later we were seated right next to the two wood burning ovens. The food was spectacular and the floor show was terrific. This place runs like a VERY well oiled machine. Watching the preparation and cooking by the people manning the wood fired ovens is a kitchen ballet. The pizzas were spectacular and topping it all off was a brownie sundae with the brownie heated up in the oven. The people working here are terrific and the location is perfect. If you are in North Conway, especially during the cooler months, this is a must see.

Stopped for lunch with another couple. The interior is 4H camp meets ski resort cafe'. There are numerous tables of all sizes, benches, sofas and even a log, yeah it's a great place. The clientele tanged from several weeks through 8 decades and everything in between, from Lexus and Bordeaux to VW bus and granola, yeah it's a great place.

The menu is limited with several salads and what we believed was the house specialty flatbread wood fired pizza. We. Started with two ample salads with mixed greens and feta. Both were large enough to share with no need for more. The four of us shared two small pies. The first buffalo chicken, hot and crisp, with a good portion of just the right heat buffalo chicken drizzled with blue cheese. The Mopsy pulled pork pie was delicious with BBQ pulled pork, and a mix of ingredients that I can't recall. It was tasty but lacked the crispness of the buffalo.

After the pies we found the house specialty was actually the desserts. We shared the gingerbread with pumpkin ice cream and the hot fudge brownie sundae. Both were large, fresh baked and absolutely tremendous. Bill with tax and two beers, $69, yeah this is a great place.

After three days of mountaineering training and camping in the snow, I came for dinner to Flatbread. It was just what I wanted, with fantastic artisan pizza, big salads, good wine and beer, and a warm casual atmosphere with fireplaces and brick ovens. It's very casual and popular with families. The waiting list to be seated can get long. Tip for single diners or couples: the bar serves the full menu and the wait can be much shorter.
