The day we stopped was a perfect day on the mountain top; so clear you could see all the way to the Atlantic Ocean!!! This is not the norm though. Took the van to the top instead of the tram. Would not suggest you drive yourself because it can be very scary at times, and drivers have been known to becomed panicked therefore having to have a rescue driver bring them down.
Be very prepaired for the extreme weather change on the top. Day we were there is was a calm 45 mph winds gusting between 55-75 mph, with a windchill of 19!!! Remember that I said this was a "good" day....All in all it is a great experience and one you should not miss.

This was a gorgeous ride. We took the guided tour. You drive through all the way to the top. You see 4 seasons as you drive up to over 6,000 feet in elevation. This is a must for all

First thing to remember, you need to go there on a clear day. Otherwise you will see only clouds.
But if it's nice, should you take the shuttle tour or your car, you will appreciate every minutes there. We went with our car. A bit scary, road is very narrow. But it's safe anyway. You are not in South America where lots of accidents occur. The people who either work in the observatory or in the weather station, well they deserve their money. When you are there, it's breath taking on the way up, on the way down , and when you are up there. So much difference in the degrees. Bring a warm sweater , long pants and socks. Their must be 40 degrees difference down and up. And bring a camera and binoculars if you have. Worths every cents you will spend there. And you will have a lot to talk about on your way back.

If you are still in possession of all your faculties after the hair-raising drive up Mount Washington, this is a really interesting spot to visit. Lots of past history and fascinating weather information. The movie about trying to eat breakfast outside on a windy winter day was hilarious. Also, the Tip Top House was a really worthwhile trip back in time. But please keep your eye on the weather and dress in layers. On the day we visited, it was in the 70's at the foot of the mountain and 34 degrees at the top with the wind blowing at least 40 miles per hour, probably more. Fortunately, my husband and I were dressed in many layers, so we were okay. A couple of folks were in their shirtsleeves and I really felt sorry for them. They had to go into the gift shop and buy sweatshirts. But if you are not faint of heart, this is definitely a recommended "attraction". Do bring your camera. I got some wonderful scenic shots as the cloud cover came and went. But hang on tight because the wind can rip your camera right out of your hand. It's definintely an adventure at the top of Mount Washington!

We picked a day when the weather was very clear and got superb panoramic views at the top. We took the road to the top and its not for drivers of a nervous disposition. The road is always wide enough for 2 cars, but there are few guard rails and it gets a little nerve wracking when you're on the outside lane with a steep drop next to you.
