“Fun Train Ride”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2014

We took the cheaper train ride, which was fun if you're just looking for a short afternoon train ride (kinda expensive though). The scenery wasn't what we had hoped though. I think I would rather pay a little extra and get the beautiful scenes!

“Relaxing trip”

The short trip is not very exciting. Pay more in June and take the longer trip including the Crawford Notch

We appreciate this reviewer taking the time to post, and her caption says it all, because all of our old-fashioned train rides are far more relaxing than they are exciting. We're not a roller-coaster :-)

Of our three excursions, the Notch Train does indeed offer the most spectacular scenery, and it's our most popular route for adults. For families with young children, though, the shorter route to Conway and back is a favorite. It crosses the Saco and Swift Rivers (where during the summer people wave from the beach and kayaks) and passes through fields where horses, sheep, and an occasional donkey can be seen.

“Conway Railroad ... Scenic not so much.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2014

Two of us drove from VT to ME in May. Stopping in NH, we took the Bartlett route. Other Railroads nearby were not yet in business for the season. For 1 h 45 min, (45 minute one way, a 15 minute stop, and 45 minute return,) a good view of a river is about all you see. When the trees don't completely block everything, you can catch a glimpse of the mountain. Otherwise, most you see are houses and roads. The 15 minute stop is next to a burnt train at Bartlett. And you don't get to walk around the town. The North Conway train station may have some nice history that is interesting to some travelers. The railroad is rather "historic" than "scenic". Unfortunately, it is not what they are called. Maybe Conway Railroad was better in the past, IDK. If you drive down from I-93 and through 112, you'd see more and better view.

We are sorry that this reviewer was unhappy with her experience here. This is Conway Scenic Railroad's 40th year in operation, and the North Conway area has seen a great deal of development over the last four decades. There are indeed more houses and trees and roads than when the Railroad started. That stated, this trip is promoted as being "over the river and through the woods," and it also offers some distant mountain views. Most people consider the ride to be very nice and very enjoyable.

There is no "burnt train" in the area, though there are four abandoned cars near Bartlett Village - which, by the way, has no retail shops or anything else, really, to walk around to see. In all our of our advertising, we talk about providing an old-fashioned railroading experience and, overwhelmingly, our visitors appreciate that we are preserving a part of New Hampshire's history for future generations to enjoy.

“One of my favorite excursions!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2014

Get there early and the right side of the train is the best. Enjoyed stopping on the Frankenstein Bridge. Packed a box lunch to enjoy at the top. The train cars are very nicely finished.
