“CHARMING HISTORIC BED & BREAKFAST, EXCELLENT FOOD, & BREATHTAKING VIEWS”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

We make a winter & a summer trip to The 1785 Inn every year. We have stayed in different rooms throughout the Inn as well as the Condo. It is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle. In the morning they serve a homemade country breakfast to house guests, which is inclusive with the room rates. I have to say although I love all the choices they offer, the blueberry pancakes are by far The Best Blueberry Pancakes I have ever had!

They have a restaurant that serves dinner and a bar, both which are open to the outside public as well as houseguests. We usually eat here almost every night it’s so nice not to have to venture out after a long day of skiing, hiking, or biking. The food is always AMAZING some of my favorites include; Table-Side Caesar Salad, Smoked Salmon Raviolis, Venison Carpaccio, Rack-of-Lamb, Veal Cutlet, Rabbit, & their Fish Specials (they always have the Best Specials). Make sure you save room for a homemade dessert they have a dessert tray they bring out for you to choose from some of my favorites include; Maine Blueberry Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, German Chocolate Cake, & Table-Side Banana Fosters., so many choices so make sure you save room!!! We have come to know most of the waiters and have always had Exceptional Service.

They also have interesting drink choices recently we tried their twist on a Mojito which was a Blueberry Mojito so refreshing on the Hot Summer Day and another one of my other favorites is their Espresso Martini. In the Winter I usually go for their Flaming Coffee Drinks….Yum! They have an Exceptional Wine List too in which has been awarded by the Wine Spectator Magazine Award of Excellence.

A couple nights we ate in the Bar in addition to the regular menu in the bar they also offer a bar menu. One night we had Black Angus Sirloin Burgers and another night we had Caesar Salads and the Inns Homemade Flatbread Pizzas. Sometimes it’s nice to have a casual dinner with some beers while enjoying a game, it’s nice that they offer a bar menu in addition to their regular menu.

The 1785 Inn & Restaurant is situated right next door to the Scenic Vista. In the winter you can cross country ski right from the Inn & there are plenty of downhill ski mountains minutes away. You should see their Festive Holiday Decorations…WOW are they Gorgeous. In the summer they have a pool and there are plenty of walking trails, hiking trails, and biking trails close by. Of course no trip is complete without a stop at the outlets for some great deals & tax free shopping. I just love waking up and strolling outside in the morning, the view is absolutely breathtaking by far they have the Best View. I can’t imagine what it must be like to wake up and see this view every morning. I am always sad when our week long stay comes to an end.

We enjoyed our dinners immensely and the service was impeccable. Even the owner came out to greet us. Atmosphere plus spectacular views of the white mountains all made our experience at the 1785 a wonderful memory.

Room Tip: We only dined at the Inn.

1. The patrons at restaurant downstairs sound like they belong at a frat party. Loud crass cursing late into the night. 2. I love quaint B&Bs. Peeling wallpaper adds character, but this is bordering on disrepair: stopped up shower, lock on room door almost falling off, etc. 3. I wouldn't have bother to write a review (I've NEVER written a bad one before), but I realized after I saw my credit card bill that I was overcharged by almost $100! Stay away!

This is a lovely old house, and the atmosphere and decor is really special. The sitting room with fireplace is a really cozy place to sit and relax, and the bar and dining room are lovely as well, resplendent with gold lights and pine boughs. Breakfast was terrific, with the mountain views out the window, and the location is very convenient for cross-country skiing. They have some good deals for cross-country skiiers as well. The rooms are sweet and quaint. If you're somebody who feels most comfortable in a generic hotel chain, this place might not be for you, but if you're somebody who appreciates the charm of an old house, with exposed beams, narrow stairways and cupboards tucked in corners, you'll feel right at home here.

Dined at 1785 Friday night, Alan was our waiter. Food and service was wonderful, thumbs up! Will return, for sure. Were not guests of the hotel, only the restaurant.

gave this old inn a second try. Stayed years and years ago and at that time was very dissapointed with tiny and musty room with shared hall bath and creaky floor. But decided to give it a try on a weekend when our favorite place was sold out and we were assured the largest room with private bath and the best view. The views here are as good as advertised which is what makes it such a shame that the Inn is literally crumbling. We arrived late night with two sleepy preschoolers, hauled our gear up the same old carpeted creaky stairs, and opened our room door to find rooms unchanged since the last partial renovation - 1980, perhaps? Old poor quality linens, dusty baseboards, threadbare carpet, lumpy and sagging mattresses. And the bath had cracks in the plaster running across the ceilings and down the walls, peeling vinyl flooring and an ancient tub with no way tub faucet meaning no cleaning the boys for two nights. Neither boy would sleep pronouuncing the sheets scratchy and the blankets musty. The little one awoke with a rash or bites all over his body - we did not find evidence of bedbugs so maybe a rogue mosquito? Almost no air flow with a couple of the old windows inoperable and a small window unit doing blocking the third. A shame as the late summer mountain night air may have helped us all to sleep despite the uncomfortable bedding. Children are charged at the full extra adult rate even when using existing bedding (our room had two queens, but we paid extra for each of the children and we did not have a breakfast included rate). The uncomfortable and outdated rooms are a shame because the restaurnat seems popular and the location is gorgeous - one of the top views in the world. Also, the grounds and gardens are lovely and the inground pool looks clean and inviting. But i really cannot say who this would work for - maybe intrepid hikers used to mountain huts and hostel accomodations but I cannot see them paying the rack rates. I hope that someone saves this lovely old place but until a complete rehab, we won't be back and we travel to N Conway area 2-3 times a year, at least.

Room Tip: There appears to be an apartment, booked by the week, and this has a nice patio and may offer decent...

Hard to sleep with traffic noise. Shower slightly smaller than the one I had on a cruiseship. Service unremarkable. Fantastic view from the dining room, great food too.

Room Tip: Try to get a room furthest back in the Inn - the traffic noise is not quite so bad back there.
