“Must do in the White Mountains”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

This and the Mt. Washington Auto Road are the must do's if you are driving in the White Mountains. Be sure to stop at the Ranger station at the south end and pick up a map. The rangers were so helpful! You will need a pass if you park and you MUST park to see the best sights. The passes are $3 for the day and $5 for a week.

Most of the attractions you can see right from the parking areas but there are 3 don't misses where you have to take a little hike or drive into the area to enjoy. One if the beautiful covered bridge located at the first campground on the Kanc. We had a great picnic lunch at the base of the bridge where there is a little park like area with benches.

Secondly, don't miss Sabbaday Falls - an easy .6 mile hike. These were some of the most interesting, unique and beautiful falls we saw on our trip.

Thirdly, stop and enjoy the Colbrath House. It is a fascinating yet tragic story of the family and town that thrived here a century ago.

Mostly, enjoy the gorgeous colors, sounds and smells of the woodland forests and the majestic vistas of the mountains.

“Natural beauty”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

Loved the beauty of the highway and Sabbaday Falls in the rain then sun was a highlight.

No dislikes as we travelled in an off peak time so could go at our own pace.

“A nice drive but can be boring”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

Perhaps it wasn't fall so the color was monotonous. There were some nice spots in the beginning of the road where you can soak your feets in the cold water of the swift river, sg. Lower Fall Picnic Area. This is kind of a bonus drive if you are heading towards Franconia Notch from North Conway via Lincoln.

“Must-do scenic highway”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

When you drive this, you feel like you are driving through the rockies. Beautiful scenery and hilly roads. There are several spots to pull off and other trail-heads to start hikes from. Great alternative way to get to North Conway.
