This and the Mt. Washington Auto Road are the must do's if you are driving in the White Mountains. Be sure to stop at the Ranger station at the south end and pick up a map. The rangers were so helpful! You will need a pass if you park and you MUST park to see the best sights. The passes are $3 for the day and $5 for a week.
Most of the attractions you can see right from the parking areas but there are 3 don't misses where you have to take a little hike or drive into the area to enjoy. One if the beautiful covered bridge located at the first campground on the Kanc. We had a great picnic lunch at the base of the bridge where there is a little park like area with benches.
Secondly, don't miss Sabbaday Falls - an easy .6 mile hike. These were some of the most interesting, unique and beautiful falls we saw on our trip.
Thirdly, stop and enjoy the Colbrath House. It is a fascinating yet tragic story of the family and town that thrived here a century ago.
Mostly, enjoy the gorgeous colors, sounds and smells of the woodland forests and the majestic vistas of the mountains.
