We went there for mu wife's birthday and were seated upstairs. It is a nice old charming room/building but we found the food didn't live up to our expectations. The service was just ok and we hope they make a few changes and will visit them again in the future to give them a second chance.

It's helpful to know that there are basically two different restaurants here - THE DINING ROOM, a more upscale dining experience upstairs; and THE TAVERN, a family-friendly atmosphere downstairs. Both have great food, just very different atmospheres! The Dining Room is only open for dinner, and has table clothes and a neat mill-type atmosphere. The Tavern is open all day, has wood paneling and wood tables, and does not take reservations.

We've been to a romantic Valentine's Day dinner (make reservations ahead of time!) upstairs with excellent appetizers, wine, entrees, the works. We've also been to Sunday brunch and lunches downstairs, where burgers, salads, and traditional "pub" fare can be enjoyed. We've always experienced the waitstaff to be helpful and polite. Prices are reasonable - and wine by the glass is as cheap as $4 on Wednesdays! Burgers/sandwiches are around $8-$12, kids' menu is around $6 for a meal and drink.

Parking CAN be an issue some evenings, as it's basically street parking, but you can park at the post office down the road (when it's not open), and then it's a short walk to Riverworks.

We've been here a handful of times in the past 3 years. When eating upstairs, service has been on the slow side. Downstairs has a neat typical New England pub feel and rightly so. Burgers used to be real good, now just ok. decent menu. Like mentioned by a previous reviewer, I wonder if it changed management in 2010 or so.

The food was more creative than we expected. My husband had the grilled stuffed eggplant and I had the chicken satay which was nice and spicy. If you love flavorful food, I'd recommend it! Our daughter had the marinated steak tips and she said it was done exactly to her liking. Often she requests medium rare and it is cooked too much. Here, it was just right. The prices are reasonable and the portions are small, which is how we like it. We went early on a Sunday night, so it was not busy at all. The service was great. The building is old and has character. It was decorated for nicely for winter, not overdone. My husband was pleased to see the menu had clear indications about which foods are gluten-free, so another plus for this place if you have any people in your party with wheat allergies.

We live not far from Riverworks, in Newmarket NH. This restaurant is set in an older building in downtown, the whole town is in the process of getting a facelift, including sidewalks. There is an upstairs (more formal dining room) and a downstairs bar (pub). The walls are stone/brick lending to a cozy atmosphere. Newmarket is a mill town, so there are many new businesses moving in, as it is very close to the University of New Hampshire.

We always sit at the bar, as the bartenders are always very funny and personable. We order off the sandwich menu, as that suits our style. Wraps are a big thing with me, and their chicken buffalos wrap is awesome!! Fries are great too. Pulled pork sandwich makes me drool. There are many beers on tap (local) and in bottles. It is nice to sit and have good food and watch the snow on a Saturday night!!
