“Perfect then not so much”

I visited Shogun twice on week nights for sushi at the bar, and take out. It was fabulous. The raw oysters were the freshest I've ever had, same for the sushi. A duck and asparagus entre was delicious and perfectly prepared. Pad Thai was so-so but then pad Thai is an individual thing, it's made so many different ways. The atmosphere and decor are beautiful and they had just added new Tatami rooms so I brought the family for a Saturday night birthday celebration. On that visit, the oysters were terrible, not at all fresh, and the sushi was not outstanding at all. Pad Thai was again so-so and the hibachi dinner - served from the kitchen not the hibachi - was just ok. All and all, the family was not terribly impressed, and the service in the new Tatami room was a bit "experimental". We would go back but sit in the hibachi room, and I will definitely stop for sushi, but the big family celebration was a bit of a disappointment.

The building is so ugly on the outside, but when you walk in, it's like entering another world. The service was great and the food was even better. The Avocado Salad and the Vegetable Pad Thai were delicious as were the veggie rolls: 1) mango avocado 2) asparagus and 3) Avocado. So yummy! Look forward to a return visit.

First of all this place is off the beaten path which may be part of the reason that I have never seen it full during lunch time, which is the only time I have gone there. Surprisingly the sushi was pretty good. The wasabi and ginger was fresh too. The miso is actual miso as well. The service is good. the atmosphere is comfortable and the pricing is reasonable.

Chef was very entertaining, drinks were good. Host and wait staff were definitely overwhelmed and sloppy. Food was good and definitely an entertaining environment! Not sure if we will return, but it was okay.
