The Fells is a "hidden gem" in the Sunapee area. Children love the long sweeping driveway with interesting sculptures along the way. The gardens encircling the main house are fantastic and the history of the Hay family given while taking a tour of the house is very interesting. The original builder and owner was John Hay, President Lincoln's personal secretary. Last summer there was a fantastic area in the woods for children to build fairy houses. My kids absolutely loved it and are praying it returns this coming summer. Take a picnic and spend the day enjoying the nature trails, the house tour and the views of the lake.

This was the John Hay Estate in the early part of the 20th century. Now there are tours of the house, lakefront hiking trails, and spectacular gardens. It is an excellent stop for children and adults alike.

Wonderful event! The theme this year was Winter Wonderland. Each room was decorated by different people, designers, decorators. Some rooms where whimzey, some rooms where authentic.

This historic home was the summer retreat of John Hay, a former Secretary of State under 2 US Presidents. It is located on the shores of Lake Sunapee with nice views and pretty gardens. There are walking/hiking trails in the immediate area as well as across the highway in the John Hay National Wildlife Refuge. The exhibits at the home were interesting and informative and the tour guides knowledgeable. It is open seasonally, and was only open on weekends in mid-September. It's a very peaceful spot!
