“Family Experience”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Over the past two weekends, my family stayed 5 nights. The NLI staff was very accommodating and the breakfast that was included in the room rate was terrific. I think the total bill for rooms was more than $1,500 as we had multiple rooms during a family reunion. The cost was well worth the experience. Local resident using the Inn for family overflow. We also eat often in the restaurant and attend charity functions there. Nice job done by all.

Room Tip: For light sleepers rear rooms a better, although Main Street rooms are not noisy.

We came here on a real estate expedition to the New London/Lake Sunapee area, the inn having been recommended by our realtor, and we were absolutely impressed by the service, friendliness, and quality of the place. And it is pet friendly, so our "son" Tango made himself at home here and was welcomed by the absolutely wonderful staff.

I love historical places to stay, particularly in New England. The New London Inn was already a business in this post-card gorgeous little town even before Dolly Madison was measuring curtains for the new White House in Washington DC. Although I can only begin to imagine the infrastructure and maintenance needs of this venerable and beautiful place, the owner and staff keep the premises in immaculate condition. The place does lack an elevator, although I was told that is in the planning works. Having lived myself in a historical structure and having to deal with historical and architectural commissions, I wish the management the absolute best in the myriad of bureaucratic mazes to be navigated to finish making this a most delightful lodging premise.

The first impression about the place is left by the staff. EVERYONE who works here exemplifies customer support, a friendly attitude and a sincere desire to help. We arrived in the wee hours of the morning after the front desk was closed for the evening, but that didn't stop the management from leaving an envelope with their apologies and the keys. The next morning we assembled ourselves, walked our pup in the expansive New London Common, and had a most wonderful breakfast. The gloomy weather was more than made up by the succulent food. They have the best Maple bacon I've had and they even gave us a little extra egg for our pup, as we had forgot his wet food cans.

Our room was a bit small (124) although it was complete. The Inn features several WiFi hotspots to ensure proper reception throughout the expansive property. And although my partner commented that the bedding was soft, I thought it was comfortable. The Inn's safety features include a full fire alarm and suppression system, which is admirable and needed in a place of this vintage, so we felt absolutely safe and at home.

We had a dinner at the Coach Restaurant downstairs, which turned out to be a memorable evening. Dinner was first-rate throughout.

Overall, a superb weekend in a top-notch New England historical hotel.

The Inn is clearly old and must be a challenge to maintain but they do a good job. It is not a luxury hotel but a quaint, historic inn with lots of charm. The rooms are clean but not immaculate. The staff are extremely polite and helpful. A full breakfast is included in the price of the room. This makes it all worth it! The breakfast is delicious and you can order anything you want and as much of it as you'd like. My teenagers were very happy to try all of the choices each morning... gingerbread pancakes, eggs any style, bacon & sausage, toast, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt... The dining room is beautiful. Wish we had the time to have dinner there... next time...

Take a beautiful drive and end up at this picturesque Inn. There were fly fishing lessons on the lawn in front (not associated with the Inn) when I arrived. It is an old building (and the internet signal is weak) but that adds to the character. The bathroom amenities are extremely high quality. Bed is perfect and the windows open! Then came breakfast! Since it was included, I expected a continental buffet, but this was high quality, bed and breakfast, order off a menu! Be sure to order something that includes NH maple syrup. I also ate at the Inn both nights. The special the second night was duck hash and it was out of this world. Can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: If you plan to eat at the Inn on a Thursday, make a reservation. Also, the front desk is only staff...

I've stayed at the New London Inn 4 or 5 times now and I can report that the rooms and service are always consistently excellent. It's an old building, so don't expect modern rooms, but the beds are comfortable and the climate controls in each room work well and are accurate(one of my pet peeves...can't stand rooms where the thermostats don't work). Yes, they do take a 50% deposit in advance, but I've never had trouble getting a refund if I cancelled. The restaurant is excellent and the breakfast (included) is also excellent.

Room Tip: I like the rooms on the third floor because there is less traffic in the hall, so they are very quie...

The Inn is one of only a few options if you want to stay "in" New London. Be prepared to pay a 50% deposit in advance when you make your reservation and prepay your remaining balance upon check in. This is the only place in the WORLD that has ever charged me in advance. It is a take it or leave it policy. The rooms are nothing special. Beds are comfy and they have nice TV's. Continental breakfast ends at 9am, so don't sleep late. The food is delicous at both the pub and restaurant. They offer a 20% discount for family of Colby Sawyer College students.

Room Tip: There are no elevators so pick a lower floor if you don't want to lug your suitcases up 3 flight...

We were welcomed by a very friendly hostess who checked us in and showed us to our room. We found the Inn to be very pet friendly. The room was clean and found it to have ample space with a Queen and double bed. We were all very happy with the Breakfast the next day. Bacon, Eggs, pastries, cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt. We stayed over the Easter Holiday to visit our daughter at Colby-Sawyer College so we had the Easter Buffet Brunch in the dining room. The service was excellent and the food was very flavorfull and presented well. However, I felt the price for the buffet was over priced at $42 per person. Overall it was a great experience would stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 21 is pet friendly and can easily sleep 4 people
