“Great food, friendly service.”

The pizza is made with fresh ingredients, and the cafe is quaint and homey. There are always police officers eating here and the place has a cool ambiance.

“First Visit -- But Not Our Last !!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

We visit the New London, NH area once or twice a year. In advance of our most recent visit, we checked out the New London Restaurant listings here on Trip Advisor and discovered A Hole in the Fence.
The write-ups sounded great, but when we first drove down the hill from Colby-Sawyer College, the apparent lack of activity, even at high noon, seemed a little disconcerting.
Thankfully we decided to give it a try just the same. We walked in to find a funky-themed entry-seating-ordering counter-coffee service area, complete with a few tables, a counter for placing our orders, a pizza-warmer with two interesting looking choices offered by the slice, and a very lengthy list of coffee selections. We didn't see much of a menu anywhere until we spotted a few laminated one-page sheets near the cash register. Turned out they held a very interesting list of creative sandwiches, Pannini, pizza and salad offerings. We made our selections, ordered at the counter, and settled in at one of the three or four tables to await our order. It wasn't until after we'd finished our meals and went looking for the rest room that we discovered other smaller, quieter dining areas toward the back of the building.
In the meantime, we quickly came to realize why we hadn't seen a lot of traffic and activity immediately outside the restaurant when we arrived -- this place does a huge walk-in take-out business, with may orders phoned in ahead of time!
Our two sandwaiches were nothing short of fantastic! One was a ham-cheddar-pear Pannini that was a perfect blend of flavors on a whole-wheat or multi-grain bread. Our other sandwich, a Rachel (similar to a Reuben but featuring turkey, Swiss cheese, thousand-island dressing and a great purple-cabbage based cole slaw on a great Jewish rye bread was one of the best sandwiches we've had anywhere in a long, long time! Absolutely creative in its flavors and perfect in its consistency. Simple sodas and flavorful Cape Cod chips made fine accompaniments to both meals.
A Hole in the Fence has definitely become our "go-to" place for lunch during any future visits to the New London area.

“Great local eatery..”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012 via mobile

Great local restaurant to eat and bump into friends. The food is superb and the staff is phenomenal. I would recommend this place for a quick meal, a sit down with family/friends, or an informal business meeting. The place is casual, yet trendy enough to be more than just a local eatery. The Reuben sandwich is right out of New York City. I also recommend the Greek salad wrap and any of the chicken sandwiches.

.....they also have a coffee station and make great local flavored coffees as well as a variety of "regular" coffee bar items.

“Yummy Lobster Roll”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

We ate at the Hole in the Fence last Wednesday, after having read the excellent reviews here. I ordered the lobster roll, and it was absolutely delicious. The lobster was generous and nicely prepared in a lightly seasoned mayonnaise dressing with just a touch of scallion and Boston lettuce. Even the Italian roll on which it was served was perfect. Accompanying it were potato chips (or crisps). I usually skip those, but in this case I ate them all.

My friend ordered the hamburger, and tat looked equally good.

“great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

We had very nice salads and sandwiches. coffee was OK, but not more. Service was nice, but again not the best. Also the bathroom needed a bit of cleaning. Yet, all in all it was a nuce experience.
