When i first saw this property many years ago, it was scheduled to be razed.
Many "grand hotels" have been refurbished, but none like the Wentworth. Historic, beautiful hotel, done right in the Marriott way.
Great food and hospitality in a great ambiance.
Love to stay here!
Highly recommend!

Recently my wife and I completed our 5th almost annual Post Thanksgiving week stay at this wonderful hotel. The exterior, public areas, and employee appearance convey elegance, but the rooms and attitudes are all casual comfort. The indoor pool with hot tub is large, beautiful, and during the week (ie, kid-less) is quiet and peaceful. The rooms are reasonable sized esp. if you go for a king bed. The most surprising thing, though, is that you can often book rooms here for amazingly prices ... sometimes much less than $200 an night.

The restaurant and its menu have recently been completely renovated. The look is visually striking, although a tad too modern me. The food ... well, we use to avoid going to the dining room. Now, it's outstanding (sans the classic Marriott cold bacon at the breakfast buffet ). Prices are a little high, but much less than at many resort hotels (although many wines are overpriced!). All the lunch and dinner dishes we had were interesting and enjoyable. Even the breakfast buffet had surprising dishes ... one morning, lobster scrambled eggs. Huge pieces of fresh lobster with cheese and some other goodies ... and all you can eat! It was WOW!

Why come to this hotel? Lots to do in the surrounding areas which includes southern Maine and New Hampshire coast. But the best reason is Portsmouth. For a small town, it has a really interesting array of quirky shops downtown and an amazing number of top notch restaurants. Eating places range from one of the best hamburger joint's anywhere (Lexie's) to a place that would compete with the best of Boston (Mombo's). There’s an excellent French Bistro (Michelle's) and a strip mall place specializing in street foods of the world (Street) and the list can go on and on. That a city with some 25,000 residents can have such a large diversity of restaurants is startling.

So if you're traveling in the area (and if not, find a way to get there), you really ought to stay at Wentworth and visit Portsmouth.

LOVE this hotel! Beautiful place. Comfy beds, heated marble tile floors in the bathroom!! Recently renovated & expanded their dining room and lounge. Best breakfast buffet!

We have stayed here at least three times for work conferences. Came back to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Just love it here. Upon arrival, we received a card with a lovely handwritten note congratulating us on our 15th anniversary, along with a Lindt dark chocolate bar, tied up with a ribbon. We also received a voucher for a complimentary appetizer. Such a nice touch and a wonderful surprise.

Beautiful views. Short 5 minute drive to downtown Portsmouth.

We did find the room to be a bit too hot. There's a thermostat, and my husband & I lowered the temp a couple times, but it didn't seem to regulate it properly. If we had stayed longer than a couple nights, we would have raised the issue with the staff. Yes, boisterous people in the hallway can be heard in the room. Otherwise it's perfect!

Love the old world charm of this hotel. The rooms are typical of an upscale Marriott resort and the food was reasonably priced and delicious at the fabulous restaurant on site and a beautiful indoor pool. Great for couples.

Though I live close, I have had the pleasure of staying here twice and enjoy the facilities often. The rooms are beautiful, marble bathrooms, nice bedding and beautiful views from almost every room. The restaurant is always a treat, with, what I think is the best lobster roll that I have found. For a special holiday and if you don't mind a buffet, the holiday buffets are amazing. The Wentworth just does things first class.

We were credited 1/2 the room rate but I would be remiss if I didn't share this experience. Housekeeping was appalling, dishonest presentation of suite upon arrival, lied about the hotel giving us champagne when it was sent by our son...restaurant, Salt, was awful.

Room Tip: Be sure to qualify ocean view. We were told we had a beautiful view of the ocean but it was beyond t...

We spent the night before thanksgiving at the hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated and we had a view of the water which was great. The bathrooms have heated floors and beautiful tile. It was not busy for the hotel that night so it was quiet. If someone is talking loudly in the hallways, it can be heard in the room. My husband used the indoor pool at 10pm that night and it was empty. It did appear that the families used the pool earlier in the night.
All the staff were friendly. I would recommend staying here even in the off season as the property, staff and food are all first class. Do have dinner in the newly renovated salt restaurant. The drinks and food were excellent. Again I can't say enough about the staff. Relaxing time.....
FYI the outdoor pool is being revamped for the spring.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the harbor.
