They were terrible, not to mention expensive. For about $80/night, you get to stay in a bunk with no sheets, in a room with about 20 other people. Many of those folks snored from partying too much. No heat, no hot water. Food was pretty good. The place was noisy, dirty and way over priced.

We stayed a 3 huts on a 4-day hike and I reviewed Lakes & Madison elsewhere ... but I have to say Mizpah was our favorite. The croo was exceptionally friendly and accomodating. The hut was at half-capacity and we were allowed to slect the bunk of our choice. We ended up in a 4-bunk room on our own ... very nice. The food was excellent (at all of the huts). The staff was very helpful if necessary. Loved meeting other folks with similar goals, sharing the chilly weather and the lack of showers. I would get a cotton sleeping bag liner if you are going to use the wool blankets provided as you do not feel the itch of the wool. Loved being in the beautiful mountains!

Our fourth stay at an AMC hut and as good as always. Great staff, yummy and delicious food--and accommodated our dietary needs. We had a seven year old daughter with us who loved scampering around on the ramparts behind the lodge for hours. Great family spot if you are willing to put in a few miles up a moderately steep trail to get there.

For those of you that enjoy hiking/backpacking this area may be for you. I did not spend a night here, but I did stop in at one hut during a day hike.

They are clean and convenient. The locations are breath taking. The hiking is hard.

If you dont spend a night,it still is a nice place to meet other hikers and chat.

I've enjoyed several visits to all except Lonesome Lake. My favorite is Gale Head since it is a bit more remote and less crowded.
