“Spectacular views”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Make sure you go visit Castle in the Clouds on a clear day because the view is amazing. The house itself was so unique - large, airy rooms with lots of windows and even showers. There are a lot of other things to do there too. Wear appropriate footwear so you can take advantage of the hiking trails and walks to the waterfalls. We had lunch in the restaurant which is in the old stables - nice atmosphere but lots of bees if you sit on the patio (they especially liked my hard cider)! Finally, you can go visit Zeus and the other horses. Zeus is huge - go see him!

“Worth the trip!”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Castle in the Clouds is simply the most exquisite place to visit, the scenery, the mansion, the restaurant....all terrific.
Start off by parking near the trail to the waterfall...beautiful. Then back in your car to a twisting winding road up the mountain to the restaurant that used to be the stables and the verandah outside that overlooks the most beautiful views of Lake Winnepausakee that you can imagine. The food here is delicious and very reasonable. Then on to the trolley that takes you further up the mountain to the mansion. What a beautiful home, for back in 1912, it is a true marvel. The views from every room are spectacular and the grounds simply lovely. The guides there are very friendly and will answer any questions you may have. All in all, a great way to spend a day, and very educational as well. We go back every year, it is a very special place.

“beautiful hideaway”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

This castle is very unique--for a 20th century built mansion. There is a trolley that can take you up to this home high on a mountail with a spectacular view of the lake region. This is a self guided tour of the home with guides to answer any questions you may have. There is also a carriage house with cafe and gift shop on the grounds.

“Cafe in the renovated stable, mansion inviting, view spectacular”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

Upon arrival, we climbed (in the car) the one way drive up to the cafe, which is architecturally interesting and has a spectacular patio view of the lakes. The old barn has been restored and cafe tables are in actual stables (sans horse manure). A giant fireplace burns, providing that ski lodge smell that says "north country". Candice was our server and she was punctual, friendly and attentive. The shuttle driver to the house sweet; the tour guide for the introduction very informed & loved the story; the house warm & welcoming with views from every angle. I loved that the props in every room were accessible to look at, versus being locked behind glass. Arts and Crafts lovers delight. Highly recommend spending time at this historic home.
