“One of the bright gems of Manchester”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

Being the watershed for the city of Manchester, Lake Massabesic is a protected area. Manchester Water Works has diligently maintained and actively polices the Lake and the surrounding woods. With the old rail trail going right by, bikers and walkers alike converge to hike and bike the area.

Its easy to get to, park your car and unload your bike and disappear for a day! The rail trail travels all the way to the seacoast (so I'm told) providing a great half-century bike tour from the lake.

Picnic areas also are available for picnicing at the shore. Boating is allowed, but if you kayak, make sure you have boots on! The rule is that no one can stick so much as a thumb in the water -- fines are steep and enforcement is just as much. Heck, I've heard stories of the Water Police jumping out from behind trees to catch a toe-dipper! Be forewarned!

The park is nice for a picnic and relaxing. No swimming but certainly enjoyable for the whole family.

“Quiet days”

Great place to go for a picnic, kayak, fishing, or my favorite reading a book under a shady tree. Also one of the most popular reasons to head here is the multi-purpose trail. Hiking, running, biking, snowshoeing, or snowmobiling. Whatever your outdoor activity is, you can do it here...except swimming. This is a reservoir for drinking water for the community.

“Pretty but there's no swimming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

The park by the rotary is a nice picnic place and there are trails along the shore. Just be aware that it is patrolled and you cannot even put your toes in the water, no kids or dogs in the water either. Kayaks are permitted but we have been reprimanded getting out of the boat if our feet touch the water. Very pleasant area though.

“No Longer a Hidden Jewel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2013

This has been a favorite of mine for many years. A beautiful setting with water and nice trails right on the edge of the city.

It still is all that, but now there are so many people who have moved to Manchester that it now feels like a nice city partk, no longer a real place to get away. :-(

I would say, still go there, but try to pick less popular times unless you want to be walking/biking with lots of others.
