No swimming is allowed here, though boats of all sizes (kayaks, sailboats, etc.) are encouraged, and there are a huge number of trails around the lake that is split in half by Route 28. Anywhere is beautiful, and we have been to many of the different trails multiple times. We highly recommend the main parking area right off the Massabesic rotary as well as the trails further south on 28 that lead out to Battery Point, a historic location where there used to be an old hotel, and which still has granite stairs and remnants, with 270 degrees of views -- well worth the mile hike. We highly recommend this area in the spring, summer, or fall, and I'm sure it is even beautiful in the winter. Free fun is hard to come by, but this is perfect.
