“Lacking focus”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

We were expecting to love Bailiwicks, but in the end found it okay rather than good.

We had the jumbo prawn cocktail and the lobster tortillas to start, then main courses of sole stuffed with spinach and lobster.

The lobster tortilla was excellent. But the prawns tasted washed out and bland - had they been frozen? This theme continued, unfortunately, with the taste of the sole: nothing to warrant a complaint, but pretty tasteless.

We didn't have dessert.

In addition to what we ordered, we were given:

- Chips and tapenade once we'd ordered
- A "free" soup or salad before the main course

And the main course was massive.

All if this made us feel that Bailiwicks was focusing on quantity at the expense of quality.

Other suggestions of a lack of focus were:

- A dirty napkin under our table upon arrival
- A haphazard approach to table clearing: by the time we had paid we still had an empty chips bowl, some tapenade, the sauce from the prawn cocktail and a half-eaten salad on the table

On the plus side, service was friendly enough.

We understand that Bailiwicks has opened a second operation in a nearby town. Perhaps attention has been diverted, explaining the lack of focus on the original?

“Warm and Cozy on a Snowy Night”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

We were staying in Whitefield, NH at the Mountain View a grand Resort and Spa and wanted to take a little trip off the property. Littleton is a 15-20 minute drive from the resort and well worth the side trip. We walked up and down the main street and shopped in the quaint stores, including Chutters, the longest candy "counter" in the world. We had reservations at Bailiwick's and were glad we did. It is located underneath the Thayers Inn and is a popular place. It's like a wine bar in decor with lots of wood and twinkle lights. There is a huge bar area for the drinkers, but at the small tables you can still hear each other talk. The menu is diverse, and there is a long selection of martinis, their specialty. My husband had cod and I had the pork chop. Both were plated to perfection and finished with great sauces but not too much. The choices were abundant. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We loved the place!

“What a great find!”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

While staying in Lincoln we took a ride over to Littleton to visit the HUGE Candy Bar at Chutters and decided we'd like to get some lunch. We had heard good things about Bailiwicks Restaurant so we thought we'd give it a try. Despite the fact that they stop serving lunch at 3 and we got there at 2:59, they were very accommodating and never made us feel like an inconvenience. They had a good selection of beer on tap and the food was EXCELLENT! There were 6 of us and we were all raving about our meals. I had the duck confit quesadillas and they were AMAZING. My husband had the blackened fish tacos and they were spicy without being overbearing, delicious! The fries and onion straws... YUM!!!! And our server Amy was a true STAR, we couldn't have had better service. Make sure that your next visit to Littleton includes Bailiwicks Restaurant!!!

“A Fine Lunch & Cocktails”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

We opted for Lunch at this fine dining restaurant and were we glad we made that decision. It is located on Main Street right in the center of downtown Littleton in the historic Thayer Inn.The cocktails we had were superb and generous for the price. My wife had a Pomegranate Martini and I had a Knob Creek Manhatten, hmm, hmm, good. The lunch selections were many and very reasonable for a restaurant that is more well known for its fine evening dining. We enjoyed a very leisurely lunch and while our server was very attentive she never made us feel pressured to finish up and move on. Each dish was nicely plated, serving aample, and best of all were very tasty. The tables allow private conversation but are still close enough to meet new friends, which we did. It's amazing how small a world we live in, another couples mother is from the same city we live in. Even more amazing is that the mother and her lady friend are both going on the Small Ship river cruise in April to Holland & Belgium that we will also be taking. Another couple, retired like us, were also campers like us and were staying at a campground we had also frequented. The friendly banter made the afternoon all the more enjoyable, what a happier world it could be if we all just talked to other people. What a great lunch and afternoon. Don't miss this place if you aree in the area.
