My boyfriend arranged a surprise trip here for my birthday, and I felt like a pampered princess the whole time. The setting was idyllic -- snowy views of a pond below, with hills and mountains in the distance. Inside, the exposed beams and old stove were cozy in an enchanting sort of way. The room was beautiful (I love quilts), and the huge jacuzzi tub was to die for. Perfect after a long winter hike.
Breakfast was a particular highlight for me. Since I have a peculiar set of dietary restrictions, I never expect big fancy meals outside of my own home. But the hosts were more than gracious about accommodating my concerns, and the resulting feast has me drooling even now. Apparently, the no-dietery-restrictions breakfast was excellent, too. My BF said, "I'm enjoying this so much that I feel like it's my birthday. Is it wrong to enjoy your birthday breakfast as much as I am?" Looked like he was in heaven.
Speaking of the hosts: They were lovely, interesting people, and I enjoyed every interaction with them. They were a large part of what made our time there so memorable.
Every year, I have an exciting birthday surprise to look forward to, and every year it's wonderful. But this one was the loveliest of all.More
