The habachi cooks are very entertaining. They juggle eggs on their spatulas and will throw a piece of vegetable from their spatula into your mouth if you can catch it which is very funny. They cook everything right in front of you and when the place is crowded you might share a habachi table with others.

Great experience - the Hibachi tables are amazing - the chef interacts with all the patrons, builds flaming onion towers on the grill, and all the main entree Hibachi dinners are cooked right in front of you. Sometimes the chefs are difficult to understand based on their lack of ability to speak English well, but they make up for it in their humor! All of this adds up to a pretty loud setting, so if you’re looking for a quite romantic dinner this is not the place to go. If you want to eat at the Hibachi tables and are a party of two or three, they will seat you and wait for other smaller parties to come in to fill up the table, so you will end up eating with strangers.

The portions of the dinner entrees are good sized, but pricey. A dinner for three of us was more than $85, but part of what you’re paying for is the show. Koto has a full kitchen and there is a menu selection for patrons who choose to sit at non-Hibachi tables, but still the price per plate is around $20. If you’re going to eat here spend the extra money to sit at the Hibachi tables and enjoy the ambiance which has become Koto Japanese Steakhouse’s signature!

This restaurant came highly recommended by a friend at work, known for being a fussy eater, so I went with a friend for an early dinner and chose the kitchen menu, rather than the 'hibachi' menu. This restaurant is located at the very south end of the Route 12 commercial strip, and shares an off-road entrance with Home Depot.

Some of the dishes were superb, while some were just average. I started with Dragon Eggs [deep friend oysters], which were done very well, and came with a tasty dipping sauce. The standard salad was fresh and crisp with a house dressing I wish was available commercially, but the miso soup was average. The main course, sukiyaki, was a very large serving of thin sliced beef and vegetables, served on yam noodles in a 'dark rich broth.' This is normally a favorite of mine, as I was first served it in a Japanese restaurant in Hawai'i where we were the only Caucasians in the place. The broth was dark, but not very flavorful. The beef, which is normally just cooked in the hot broth, was definitely over-cooked to my taste, as were the vegetables. Even with all the ingredients, it tended to be bland.

My friend started with the Seafood Dynamite, which was tasty even if missing the listed caviar. The optional Seafood Soup followed, which was also very good. The main course of Seafood Tempura was impressively plated, with a large variety of seafood and vegetables lightly battered and fried. However, 2 of the items could not even be identified and were definitely not to either of our tastes, and the hostess had to go back to the kitchen to ask [and never did find out what it was other than 'Japanese fish'].

I have to add at this point that the waitstaff is a very eclectic mix of American Caucasian and obvious recent immigrant, and all were extremely attentive and helpful. At one point, or another, every employee in the dining room, including the hostess and the manager, checked on us to make sure all was going well - a definite plus in this area, where service tends to be spotty in many restaurants.

There was only 1 hibachi table in use with a young family group, and it was obvious that the children, all preteen, were noisily enjoying the experience.

The friend who recommended the restaurant has insisted that a group of us return for the hibachi menu, so I will be going back to see if that makes a significant difference. Otherwise, at this point the restaurant has been labeled 'been there, done that.'

After making a reservation we waited for an hour and a half for our table. This should have been our first indication to run, but our children were excited for hiabachi. Once seated we had to flag the manager down to take our order. After ordering we had to remind our waitress 3 times that we had also ordered sushi. Once she brought the sushi it was so warm from sitting out I couldn't eat it. When sending it back she was so rude we left our table. Went to find a manager, a waitress posed as a manager and tried to bill us for entrees and drinks we never received. When I questioned it the waitress quickly told us to leave as the real manager approached. We had to get our own drinks from the bar. It was surreal how terrible this experience was. I have been a tripadvisor reviewer for years this is the first bad review I have left. It was more than bad, the place should be ashamed. We were on a weekend away and spent 3 hours of our Saturday night at a restaurant that we didn't get food at. We ended up at the Wendy's down the street where surprisingly the food and service were better. We were offered a giftcard for our trouble but declined. I will never ever set foot in a Koto based on this sad excuse for an establishment.

went for lunch--very quiet--excellent service, very good sushi--a pleasing experience-- a little out of the way at the end of a long commercial strip but right next to Home depot
