“May 2007 stay”
Reviewed May 11, 2007

Well, i have already wrote a review on this Inn but i feel i need to update it again.

We had a beautiful room, room 501. Awesome tub! HUGE!
The staff were ok, but could have been better. The food was just ok this time around.I have had better there. There was a wedding which i never like when im staying there. It tends to take away from your stay. The staff is more stressed and don't attend to you as much. I think the person who made my stay was the housekeeper. She kept our room nice and clean..I stayed at other places that same week and liked them better. I will be going back to the Thorne Hill inn and the snowflake Inn next year. I hope this review helps you all.

My husband and I traveled to the Wentworth for a short getaway over Patriot's Day weekend. We stayed in Arden room 407, which is one of three rooms in that building with a hot tub on a small, enclosed porch.

The room was really quite lovely - it looked just like the pictures on the website. It had a huge four poster king bed, a very nice gas fireplace, spacious bathroom with walk in shower for two, and a small, but perfect hot tub for two people on the porch. I was a little worried that there wouldn't be much privacy up there, but it was very private and cozy. There were even speakers on the back porch that were attached to the surround sound in the bedroom! (although we couldn't get the cd player to work with the speakers, the radio did work).

The service we received from the staff was great. Allister, Stephanie and Heather in the dining room were great! We really enjoyed the food - we had the package that included breakfast and a four course dinner each night. The wine list was superb also.

My only complaint with this property - and the reason that I give three stars instead of four or five - is because of the constant cigarette smell in our room. The Wentworth advertises itself as a no smoking property, but someone was obviously smoking in their room near ours. The smoke crept into our room on the first night, and we were given an ionic breeze air purifier. We turned that on and it did a good job of mitigating the smoke, and we were assured by the staff that they would look into it and be sure that it wouldn't happen again. However, the second night, we continued to smell smoke. It was in the hallways and very strong in our room, and the staff seemed unable or unwilling to find the culprits and insist that they stop smoking, which is the policy of the hotel.

If it hadn't been for the smoke (which really disgusts me), I would whole heartedly recommend this hotel to anyone. It truly is an "elegant country inn" in the heart of Jackson. The view was beautiful, our room was lovely, the food was excellent and the staff was a pleasure to deal with. However, a stronger attention to detail is something that I expect at a five star hotel.

  • Liked — hot tub on private porch, excellent dinners & wine list
  • Disliked — cigarette smoke in room

My husband and I took a quick weekend trip to the White Mountains and were so pleased with our choice to stay in Jackson. It was out of the hubbub of Glen and North Conway, yet close enough that we could buzz around in a matter of minutes. I found it easier and the prices the same to just book our room directly thru the hotel's website. We stayed 2 nights in the main building of the hotel, and got the Bed & Breakfast package.

The room was spacious, but the hotel is old so I really felt like the door was thin and TV noise might be a problem, or people walking by at night. The bathroom had a big clawfoot tub and I enjoyed the old-fashioned aspect of it. The biggest complaint is that the music that is played in the lobby downstairs was coming from a speaker that was apparently directly underneath our room. We could hear the music better in our room than downstairs. They do turn it off at night, but around 7am they start it back up again.

Just a short walk up the road past the hotel is Jackson Falls which is a lot of fun to walk to. The water is shallow and the rocks are easy to hop around on. We saw some kids splashing around in bathing suits. It's quite photogenic and a great place for an after-dinner stroll.

We LOVED the breakfast package. Both mornings we so looked forward to a great meal in a lovely dining room with the tablecloths, nice silver, etc. You can also eat on the deck, but even in August the mornings were pretty chilly. The menu has about 5 choices each day, something to suit all tastes. My husband had pancakes both mornings, and I had an omlet with seasoned potatoes one morning, and Eggs Benedict the next morning (served on Sundays). They also have a little buffet where you get your own fruit and juices, breads, etc.

We did not have dinner at the Wentworth at all, but we did notice that the dining room was packed every night and it was very dark in there, and quiet. Instead we had dinner in Glen at the Margarita Grill on Friday night, and then on Saturday night we went to North Conway for Bellini's.... both were SO delicious and easy to get to. Staying in Jackson makes it easy to just pop over to the neighboring towns and try the restaurants.

  • Liked — location, landscaping, friendly staff
  • Disliked — music speaker directly underneath our room
  • Tips/Secrets — Definitely get the breakfast package!

Booked a room in the main building of the Wentworth, bought the package which includes the 4 course dinner and breakfast. Our shabby room overlooked the maintenance garage with a view of the garden tools and lawn equipment. Tiny bathroom with moldy inner lining shower curtain which you couldn't help touching due to the shower space. Moved to a suite in the modern adjacent building. Beautiful room but the price of the suite was not equal to the value of the room and the meals. Dinner was disappointingly mediocre (perhaps the chef had the night off?), the dining room stuffy and pretentious but breakfast was good. So many places to choose from to sleep and eat in Jackson, I would look elsewhere nextime.

We booked this hotel after reading good trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. We liked this hotel, nice location and (mostly) friendly staff.
We booked the fall special here which included a five course meal for 2 in the price. The room we chose had a hot tub on your own private balcony and was located in the Arden suites (room 407). The room was gorgeous, huge bed, nice decor, big bathroom and the hot tub was a really nice touch. They even threw in a ghost for good measure that played around with the lights!
The five course meal was good, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. The menu was a bit ponsy, snobby for the sake of it ,so we had to ask the waitress what half of it actually meant but the food was very good.
The next day at breakfast we did have a waitress that looked as though she had just risen from the dead and had a smile to match (oh no wait....she didn't smile - not once!) But that aside the breakfast was good, I do begrudge the automatic tip taken for non US residents as she definately didn't earn it. It didn't spoil the stay though.

Would stay here again with a special package as its such a good deal, friendly ghost and all.

At our recent visit to the White Mountain area in NH, we stayed two nights at the Wentworth in Jackson, NH. We enjoyed the area, and found the Wentworth to be a nice place to stay.

We were looking for a nice place to stay, not too pricey, but decent for family with small infant. Rates in the area were running from $200-300 a night for a hotel style place, and since we had a baby, B&Bs were out of the question.

I found a bunch of package deals on the Wentworth's website - and called directly to find out more. After some prodding and asking, I found out that they offer rooms WITHOUT the meal package - which ended up dropping the room price down to around $180-190. They definitely don't want to advertise that, but they do offer non meal packages. You can choose to eat at their restaurant if you don't sign up for the package meal plan, so that leaves the option open. There are some small local food places around if you're trying to make your money go a little further.

The room was small, double bed, with room for infant portable crib(which we brought along). Bathroom decent size. The walls were a little thin and we could hear the music below from the dining room, but it was nothing oppressive, just background noise. The lobby was very beautiful - a nice warm cozy feeling.

The only major inconvenience was that there wasn't an elevator to our room. We had to haul our bags up a fair amount of stairs to get to our room. This might have been an issue for some, but I believe they have rooms in the other buildings on the first level. Hauling bags, baby and baby bed was definitely some exercise. Also, it took us a while to find the hotel - directions from Mapquest are bad....there are multiple 16A exits off the main road, be warned!

All in all, a good stay for us - and we were able to explore the White mountain area with decent convenience and a comfortable night's stay.
