“Great Value!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2008

I stayed at the Eagle Mountain House for a weekend away with friends. This place is definitely a bit rickety and rough around the edges. The floors are squeaky and the carpet's faded, but it can all be overlooked. It has everything you need plus charm and friendly service. Our room had all the amenities of a traditional hotel - hair dryer, TV, phone, alarm clock, individual thermostat, extra pillows, etc. If you stay at little inns and B&Bs around New England, you will soon realize that these are not a given and appreciate them when you find them. The rooms are very clean and quiet. The food was great. Stick around for the Sunday brunch with live music (piano) and save room for the dessert buffet! Eagle Mountain is a great value for the area. During the slow mud-season (spring), prices are as low as $50-$70, higher in other seasons of course.

My favorite part about this place is that it has the feel of a grand old hotel, back when there truly were such places, but with affordable prices. I would definitely go back.

Okay, you can't compare this to a Ritz or a Four Seasons, but the location and the temperment of the locals makes up for the creaky floors, the drafty windows, and "upgraded" features such as sprinklers. It's old. When I get this old, I hope I hold up half as well. For an authentic New England experience, this is definitely on my Top Ten list.

We stayed at the Eagle Mountain Resort in November, in the White Mountain Region of New Hampshire. This was right after the fall foliage season ended, and right before Xmas season begain.

I can't tell you how quiet and peaceful this resort is! There are not many tourist during November, and the Front Desk doesn't put you near the other guests.

When you enter, it's like going back in time. From walking up the front stairs, to the huge farmers Porch. It is like entering someones living room. There is a fireplace by Registration, a library to the right, a grand staircase directly in front of you, and an old elevator with a grate that you have to open and close yourself!!

The staff is very laid back, helpful, and very friendly. There is a small tavern on premises, and a dining room. You are required to make reservations even if you are the only guest, so the chef knows how many people he will cook for in the evening. They have many wonderful original menu items, all delicious.

The rooms are very nice. We prefer the rooms with the slanted ceiling on the third floor, overlooking the golf course and scenery.
Every room has its own individual thermostat, old fashioned bathroom, fully update of course, and the most comfortable beds with down covers. TV, armoir, sitting area round out this amazing room. It is so quiet, you can hear a pin drop.

We highly recommend this resort. You can check them out on line, at Eagle Mountain Resort, Jackson, NH. You can even be put on their email list, so you are aware of when they are having specials.

Have Fun

Leigh and Brian

We had a 2 night stay in this lovely old hotel early in October. The location is beautiful, surrounded by gorgeous scenery. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming. We had quite a struggle to get ourselves and our suitcases into the extremely old lift, somebody had to come and hold open the very heavy door for us! Our first floor room was a little shabby and rather outdated, and was located on the side of the hotel, so no real view. Beds were comfortably enough and the bathroom was ok. The biggest problem was the noise. Everything seemed to creak, the doors, floors and beds! I know it is an old hotel and that is to be expected, but when you have someone in the room above who seems to like to walk around at 4.00am, it is hopeless trying to get to sleep! Subsequently, I spent 2 nights getting very little sleep which did spoil my break. I would advise anyone thinking of staying here to insist on a top floor room with nobody above you and preferably at the front to get a nice view!

We just returned from Eagle Moutain House. Pesonally I wanted to leave after the first night. The property is beautiful and does give you a NH feeling from when you first step in the door. My problems were:
1. Our room smelled musty upon our first entrance, probably due to no recent usage, because after being cleaned after our first night, it smelled better. I'm allergic to dust and mold and my allergies kicked up that first night, I felt terrible on Sunday.
2. The bed was harder than concrete, and slanted due to the room floor being slanted. I didn't sleep at all in my two days there.
The food in the restaurant was delicious and everyone was nice. I doubt we'd stay here again or recommend it to friends, my back is still in knots!!!

Driving up to the Eagle Mountain House ins Jackson, NH was a like a trip back in time. The property and the view are spectacular and the staff was friendly, attentive and efficient.

Pros:
1. Spectacular Views
2. Good Restaurant. Dinner was good, desserts phenomenal, breakfast and Sunday brunch to die for.
3. Great Service. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating.
4. Large comfortable rooms (at least for the suites)
5. Full complement of TV channels.
6. Fridge in the room for suites.
7. Nice sized, clean bathrooms.
8. Nice package deals (we did weekend escape which gave us room for two nights, dinner for two adults for one night, breakfast for two adults and brunch for two adults at peak foliage season for $320 a night booking 2 weeks before hand).
9. Quiet Policy (no loud noise allowed from 10:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
10. Great location. Convenient to all the local attractions.

Cons:
1. No TV in the bedroom
2. Not very handicap friendly (one very old, elevator that is unusable by someone in a wheelchair as it has two heavy doors that need to be opened by hand.)
3. Wireless not available in all rooms (though maybe that's a pro :) )
4. Old building means creaky floors.
5. Rooms while clean could do with some paint and wallpaper repairs.
6. No Room Service

Definitely a place to consider if you are going to this area.

We (2 adults and 2 children) stayed at the Eagle Mountain House (EMH) 10/6 and 10/7 for a trip to Santa's Village and some outlet shopping. Location of the EMH is great. Jackson is a beautiful small town and short drive to most Mount Washington Valley attractions.

The EMH is impressive upon arriving - big old white colonial styled hotel in a great setting. Lobby area is small but nice. Other common areas (library, game room, hot tub, etc...) are clean and adequate. Porch had plenty of rockers to relax in. Our room (two room suite) was a bit tight for 4 and also was pretty aged (peeling wallpaper, exposed piping, older carpet) though clean. The bathroom was new with good lighting and a large shower (only). The bed was comfortable though the pillows and sheets were of poor quality.

Breakfast was included with our stay and was very good. Good selection and very fresh. Service was also very good.

All in all we enjoyed our stay and would go back but this is truly a 3 star property because of the size and condition of the room we stayed in. The hotel is 100 years old and they have done a good job of retaining it's charm - just do not expect any sense of luxury.
