“Wonderful little Inn with a fantastic setting.”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

This was our second weekend trip to Whitney's and we will be back again. The Inn is comfortable and clean; homey and rustic. The drive up is amazing and half the fun. The Shovel Handle Pub is a great relaxing spot to grab a few drinks and dinner. Really highly recommend this place if you are looking for a rustic Inn in the White Mountains.

Some of the rooms are small, so get a king size bedroom with a sitting area if you think you will be spending any time relaxing in the room.

This is a small quaint inn in Jackson, NH right next to Black Mountain ski resort. The rooms were average, adequate and had everything we needed. Basic but clean, nothing fancy but a great location for skiing. They did have afternoon cookies and cocoa which my kids LOVED. There are a few common areas to lounge and relax and the dining room where breakfast was served was nice. The breakfast was AWESOME and offered a full complimentary hot breakfast that you could order off of the menu with options such as omelets, french toast, and belgian waffles to name a few. There was also a small ice rink in the back that you could use and they even had free skates to borrow. The Shovel Handle Pub was connnected to the inn and we had a nice dinner with musical entertainment after a day of skiing. Overall, a good place to stay if you want to ski Black Mountain. They even had an equipment room if you wanted to keep your gear there. There was an outdoor pool but we stayed in winter so kids didn't get a chance to use it.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room with a king bed and a pull out sofa for the kids

We stayed in a suite called the Lift Line with a fireplace, view of the slopes, comfortable living room area and cozy, nicely decorated bedroom. The kids had plenty of room to spread out and my husband and I enjoyed a nice retreat. The kids had a blast playing pick-up hockey on the outdoor ice rink. We enjoyed lounging indoors, watching them through the large windows. The staff is incredibly warm and friendly. The breakfast in the morning was outstanding! The attention to detail and high quality makes it feel like you are in a much larger luxury resort, yet you are nestled in this charming Inn within the White Mountains.

Room Tip: Rooms within the main Inn have a bed and breakfast kind of feel. The suites and cottages feel more...

This was our first time in the White Mountains over a busy holiday week. Quite a few options were booked at the time we were considering our trip so I thought this looked like a decent choice from the website and reviews. NOT SO! We stayed in the Lift Line suites. The queen bed felt like a piece of plywood with a few metal springs. In addition, there was some type of machinery operating in the wee hours of the night (morning) outside our window. The walls were paper thin and every noise from in the hall and in the adjoining room could be heard! As far as the "included breakfast", don't count on it due to the fact that breakfast is open for 1 hour during the week and 11/2 hour on the weekend. We arrived 10 minutes after opening and all tables (approximately 10 of them) were taken. In addition, there were people waiting to be seated. There was no staff to let us know wait time or to seat patrons. If you are not present in the first wave of patrons, I find it unlikely you would be served before the breakfast serving period ended. The Inn Keeper (front desk) was not helpful in identifying when and how to obtain a table and suggested we not sit down immediately after a table cleared due to the fact the wait staff may be confused and think we were previously served. What???
As I read previous positive reviews, I am wondering if they stayed in the same establishment. I can't imagine you could do worse choosing from the many other places to stay in the area.
One redeeming feature was the Shovel Handle Pub. The food here was decent and atmosphere was of a rustic barn--somewhat unique.

Although the place is not quite as posh as some of the other Inns I have stayed in you get an huge breakfast with great staff waiting on you. The Shovel Handle closes rather early 9pm for my speed and if you arrive late there is no food at the bar or room service. So I think the place is geared more toward familes(lots of screaming running down the hall kids) and not couples. Room 10 was extreamly small you get a bed, old tv and bathroom thats it... the shower is more like a drip of water..they really need to invest in some shower heads.. but it was warm... The area is very nice everyone we met or waited on us was very nice. Its close to all sorts of winter fun.

Room Tip: Room 12 has a large king, with a sitting area althogh at the top of the stairs a nice veiw of black...

One of the best things about our experience at Whitney's Inn was the level of safety and comfort for the kids in our group. While the parents played games by the fireplace, the kids played hockey on the ice rink and watched movies in the family room off the lobby. It's just the kind of place you want to spend a weekend with your family, because there's something for everyone!

We loved this wonderful gem in New Hampshire. Lovely accommodations, easy access to ski lift and wonderful food. We had an awesome weekend here with family and friends. The staff are very helpful and kind and truly are concerned that your experience is memorable. We will definitely visit again and recommend Whitney's Inn without reservation.

Room Tip: Room 11 is awesome, and luxury rooms 12 and 14 are very spacious!
