Food isn't awesome, but the environment and conviviality make up for it in spades. Recommended.

“One of the best meals we've had! Great food, large portions and reasonably priced!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2009

We started with the lobster cakes which were out of this world! They were served with some greens that had an amazing lemon dressing. The scallops wrapped in bacon were huge and drizzled with a maple dijon sauce! The rest of the meal was out of this world! Seammus has outdone himself! This place is one of the best kept secrets in the North Country.

“Best Meal In Jackson and North Conway!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2009

We were in the area for three nights and decided we would try a different place each night. Stonehurst Manor was the first night...OK....Wildcat Tavern the second night...NEVER AGAIN! The Shovel Handle Pub was the restaurant we chose for our last night. It was by far the best meal we have had at any restaurant in the area. We started with a Tomato Bisque which was fantastic and piping hot. For our entrees we had the Bourbon Steak Tips and the Baked Stuffed Cranberry Chicken. The Steak Tips melted in my mouth and were accompanied by Red Bliss Mashed Potatoes which were plentiful. The Chicken dish was one of the specials for the night and "special" it was!!! They should add this dish as a regular. It was OUTSTANDING!!!
Service was friendly and attentive. They had entertainment that evening which added something special to the night! This is now a Fan Favorite of ours to stop at!!!!

“Great way to close the day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2009

My wife and I stayed at the Whitney over Presients Day Weekend. We ate dinner at the attached Shovel Handle Pub 2 nights. Started out the meal with the spinach/cheese/ artichoke dip. Nice and gooey with melted cheeses and chunks of artichoke. Clam chowder was also good, very thick and plenty of clams. The steak tips were awesome, cooked medium in a wonderful marinade, nice and tender with real mashed potatoes. Plenty of food on the plates, but not too much to be overwhelming. Plenty of good beer on tap. Music was good as well. The atmosphere is family friendly and a group of kids sat on the floor in front of the guitar player for a long time and enjoyed the show immensely. Don, the owner, came by a number of times to make sure everything was ok, which was nice since he was clearly busy as could be working tables with the other staff. No one tried to rush us and the wait staff was very accomomdating.

“True apres ski experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2009

The Shovel Handle Pub was a terrific way to end a day of skiing at Black Mountain. My family and several friends spent three consecutive days skiing at Black Mountain. We ended each day at the Shovel Handle Pub. The staff was accomodating and friendly. The acoustic live music (three different entertainers each day) was perfection. The overall atmosphere at this establishment was comfortable, friendly, and pleasant. Mostly, the food is exactly what you want at the end of a long day skiing - hearty, warm, and delicious! I honestly wouldn't change a thing.

Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the food and hope you come back soon. I took over as the chef here in October of 2008 and have made several changes to ensure every guest has as good of an experience as you did. Hope to see you soon.
