“Great Inn in a great location in New Hampshire”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2007

This is a very nice bed and breakfast that we would jump at the opportunity to stay at again given the chance to return. It is just a few miles off the Interstate highway but is in a beautiful part of New Hampshire. Easy access to the lake and hiking trails.

The two ladies, Rae and Cindy, were both very helpful with suggestions for activities in the area. We stayed in the "Loon Room" and were very happy with the accommodations. The included breakfast was excellent and do not miss the homemade ice cream sandwiches they prepare during lunch.

This place is a winner!

We were driving in New England and came across Holderness on a day trip, we fell in love with the area, the lakes, scenery and ambience of the entire area. We saw the Inn on passing, but it had a no vacancy sign, however my husband decided to call in anyway, and low and behold the Winnepauskee room was available. The whole place was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. We were more than impressed, we could only stay one night as we had to move on, how I wish I could have spent just one more night. Cindy was very welcoming and the breakfast delicious. I would definately reccommend this Inn to anyone without reservation.

We stayed for 3 nights during mid september 2006. The inn is charming, and the innkeepers Cindy and Rae very hospitable and welcoming. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the bed was SO comfortable. Would have no hesitation in recommending the Inn to anyone, a great place to stay.

  • Liked — No TV! and cell phone could not get a signal!
  • Disliked — Communal area outside our room.

We felt very welcome arriving at Squam Lake Inn. As we were there in May for 2 nights, the Inn was not that busy and we had a tour of the unoccupied rooms. We preferred Chocorua Island to the Squam Suite as this had a bigger, modern bed. The fact that this room faces part of the small road did not bother us in the least - we did not hear any traffic noise. The breakfast menu changes daily and is delicious! Afternoon coffee, tea and cake is available as well. The fact that Squam Lake Inn is not in Holderness was not a big problem - it is a short drive to one of the restaurants there for an evening meal. There is also free internet access, which was great. Cindi and Rae were very helpful. On one occassion, without asking, they tumbledried my husband's handwashed gym outfit. You feel that they genuinely care about their service towards their guests and enjoy people. The whole atmostphere is one of warmth, excellence and relaxation. We would definitely recommend this Inn to others.

You get a special feeling about the Squam Lake Inn the moment you arrive. It may be the impressive Red Barn overlooking the parking lot, the sunny deck, or the inviting wrap around porch, all letting you know you are now "in the country." When you step inside the cozy living room with fireplace, you will be greeted by Cindy and Rae, two of the nicest people you'll ever meet. They are always ready to make suggestions about things to do and places to go, and will always take time to chat with you, even though they really have a million other things to do. The inn is very centrally located, with easy access to shopping outlets, antiquing, hiking, water sports, and tours of Squam Lake.

Rae is a gifted chef, and prepares the most scrumptious breakfasts. You always start with a fresh fruit appetizer, and then may go on to Eggs Benedict, German apple pancakes, orange cream filled french toast, design your own omelettes, or any of Rae's amazing creations. You'll think you died and went to heaven when you taste Rae's maple sugar bacon. Not only is everything delicious, but it is beautifully presented with Cindy's artful fresh fruit garnish, maybe with a sprig of mint grown right in the backyard. Cindy is a talented baker as well, and when you come home in the evening you can always expect to find one of her treats sitting out waiting for you. It may be chocolate chip cookies, brownies, lemon tarts, chocolate fudge cake, or her incredible apple crisp. It is fun to sit in the living room, enjoying these treats, and talk with the other guests. Cindy and Rae will often join the group as well. Everyone shares their stories and helps you plan your activities by making suggestions about what to do or where to eat. If you want to spend time by yourself, you can enjoy a game of scrabble, or any one of the many games available to you.

Every room in the inn is spotlessly clean and cozy. They are decorated with a "cottage" feel, and the comfy quilts and shabby chic accessories make you feel right at home. New in 2005 was lunch at the Squam Lake Inn, which is absolutely fantastic. We fell in love with the lobster roll, but everything on the menu is wonderful. New in 2006 is the gift shop in the Red Barn, which is loaded with unique gift items for the home and garden. Cindy and Rae continue to challenge themselves to make the Squam Lake Inn the best B&B in the Lakes Region, by coming up with new ideas that will please their guests and their visitors. We are definitely "repeat visitors," and they have made us feel like family. You will feel like family too, after a stay at the Squam Lake Inn!

My husband and I visited N.H. for the first time in Oct. and were lucky enough to stay at the Squam Lake Inn.
It was just beautiful; from the warm and cozy fireplace in the main living room to the amazing country dining room! we stayed in the Loon room and had a great view of the big red barn. i have never slept in a more comfortable bed! Rae and Cindy do a great job of making the Inn feel like home. Breakfast was amazing each and every day; and healthy as well! They were very helpful on where to dine
and on all the local activities. We can't wait to return for a longer stay!

We toured around New England for a week and was fortunate to be able to spend a night near Squam Lake. The staff at the Squam Lake Inn were friendly, the rooms were comfortable with simple decorations, the location near Squam Lake was unbeatable and the food was good. The only downside was the traffic noise in the morning (we stayed in the Chocurua Room). Otherwise, we had a very nice stay. And we would highly recommend the tour around Squam Lake.. which was one of the highlights of our trip.
