Owner description: Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is a fun and enlightening place for everyone to enjoy. Here at the Science Center, we house and exhibit many different wild animals, including river otters, mountain lions, bobcats, deer, bears, birds, foxes, and skunks. The wild animals at Squam Lakes Natural Science Center are ambassadors of their species, here for the purpose of educating our visitors about New Hampshire's natural world. Most are orphaned, injured, or otherwise unable to survive in the wild. Observing these animals up-close, together with experiencing our hands-on exhibits, offers visitors the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of our native wildlife and appreciation of the natural world.

Although this is a preserve, it is well done. The animal enclosures are natural and large enough for the animals being showcased. We spent a good four hours there, hiked up to it from the Inn at Golden Pond.

My wife has been looking forward to visiting Squam Lake. One of her favorite movies is “On Golden Pond”. So a tour of the lake was mandatory.
Since it is October there was a little less available but we were able to book the “Nature of The Lakes” tour booked through the Natural Science Ctr. In Holderness.
We were not disappointed. We had great weather and a great Captain/Guide. We spotted a total of 14 Loons, one Bald Eagle, Eider, Merganser and Cormorant. While also touring points, relative to the movie and extensive history recited by our guide.
I would highly recommend this tour.

The Science Center is a trail based exploration of nature. Lovely walk through natural settings punctuated by exhibits of live animals-otters, foxes, mountain lions, fisher cats, bears-all animals that are sheltered at the center and presented in wonderful engaging education exhibits. There's a bird house that is delightful and has great interactive learning games and a children's center where kids can climb ropes and make trails with animal hoofs--all of it educational, all of it fun, all of it a wonderful explorative experience. Not to be missed if you're in the area; worth a trip to the area to enjoy. The cruise on Squam Lake is icing on the cake.
