We stayed here as part of a 2 week holiday in New England. The house is lovely and the grounds beautiful - we wandered around the gardens and even tried to shoot a few hoops on the basketball court out the back. There are 2 extremely friendly cats who hung out with us at the basketball court and a cute dog as well. The room was very nice and clean and breakfasts were delicious. The B&B is a little way out of the actual town of Hanover, but I quite liked the countryside setting and it was only a 5 minute drive into the town. The town of Hanover is very pretty and though small, it has a good mix of shops, cafes and restaurants and is quite lively. There is a great pub in the town (Murphy's) which does good food. The owner of the B&B is very friendly and the place has a nice relaxed atmosphere - we felt very at home and comfortable.

I am not a B&B fan (my wife is), but the Trumbull House sold me on the idea at last. The myth is that there's no privacy, that you'll have to share a bathroom, etc. Not true at all in this case. We were very impressed by the Trumbull House. It was very peaceful, clean, and private. Most of the time I was unaware that there were other guests there despite the driveway with several cars. The owner is Hillary, who served us a great breakfast the two mornings we were there. I can attest to the quality of the muffins - really terrific, as was the breakfast in general. We stayed in the third floor "Yellow Room." It furnished us with two of the best nights' sleep we've ever had, no joke. There is a large public room with books, relaxing sofas, etc for the guests who don't prefer to hide in their rooms (like me). There are also sixteen acres of land attached to the property, and it hooks up to the Appalachian Trail. True, it is 4-5 miles from Dartmouth, but I found this to be nice in a way - no bustle, etc. A previous reviewer mentioned outdated green carpets, but our experience was different. Our room was simply and classically decorated. My wife and I can wholeheartedly recommend the Trumbull House and would certainly stay there again.

If you're a B&B person you'll probably enjoy the Trumbull House. It feels a bit like you're staying with friends (unsightly views into the messy personal area of the house, no locks on the doors, etc.). The rooms are spacious and clean though, and the beds were very comfy. Decor is a bit shabby and dated but given that everything was spotlessly clean it wasn't a huge issue. Free wifi a big plus! Breakfast was great as others have said, there's a menu of choices, things are cooked to order and the warm muffins and scones are fantastic. It's a bit out of the way which is a minor negative, it can be tricky to find, in a residiential area. Not walking distance to the town so beware if you're looking for something close to Hanover center. A bit pricey for what it is but acceptable.

My wife and I stayed at Trumbull House in Hanover for two nights in October 2008. On the positive side, this B&B appears to attract a very nice guest and we enjoyed visiting with some really interesting, professional and just good people. The breakfast is very good with about 8 choices which are freshly prepared. In addition, Hillary served scones one morning and muffins the next which were great. The house is attractive, not oppulent, the grounds are pretty but the house sits on a fairly busy street so that traffic noise might be a problem for light sleepers with rooms that face the street.. Also, be aware that this B&B is in a nice neighborhood but about 5 miles from Dartmouth and downtown Hanover and we found it a little hard to find our way back at night. We stayed on the third floor and there was no assistance in carrying bags up rather steep stairs. The innkeeper does not lock the house ever and there were no locks on the doors in the rooms except for a chain lock you can use once you are in the room. Therefore, we worried about security a bit. The room furnishing are just ok with somewhat tired, kelly green carpet in the rooms (are there hardwood floors underneath, we wondered), the bed was fairly comfortable and the linens were nice. Overall, cleanliness was good except there were about a dozen dead flies on the window sills and window seat which was very offputting to my wife- these were not removed during our two days there. Also, the innkeeper has 3-4 cats and a couple of dogs which have access with the kitchen in which breakfast is prepared. On the positive side, there was a nice office on the second floor with a computer and printer, helpful for checking email, planning the next day, etc. The innkeeper was friendly but not particularly knowledgeable in suggestions for things to do in the area, etc. I would recommend this B&B overall but would probably not particularly seek this house again if we stay in New Hampshire some time in the future.

This place is outstanding! From the friendly summer innkeepers, to the great rooms, and delicious homemade country breakfasts. The inn is well run, efficient, friendly, and the staff makes sure you're happy--it's got a great sense of rural vermont with a terrific high-end Inn. I stayed for 7 days, part in a suite, really wonderful and fun.
The grounds were fabulous and beautiful...For any of you wanting a great country B&B that is really high end and worth the money, I cannot say enough about this great place.

My family and I have stayed here several times, and it was a really nice experience. Hilary's breakfasts are great - especially the famous pancakes - and I've always slept well and been comfortable. At night in winter, like something out of a Martha Stewart photo spread when you drive up. The walls are a liiiittle bit thin, and there might be too many doilies and ruffles for some, but I've never had a nicer stay.

This was our second stay at the Trumbull and we've now booked a 3rd one. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and restful. The little amenities (a free library of books, DVDs and CDs) make it welcoming and fun. The location for us works out great--it's close and convenient to our destination, Dartmouth College. The innkeeper and her family are very friendly and somehow remember our names. A real highlight is the breakfast; we have brought in family staying at different locations so they can enjoy the freshly baked delicious muffins and the wonderful main breakfast offerings. This is a great place to stay.
