I stayed in the area for three weeks whilst on business and enjoyed getting into Dartmouth for a change of scenery away from work or the hotel. It seemed to be the epitome of how I imagined an Ivy League small 'town' should be! The iconic landmark buildings which are familiar to Alumni and their families are worth a look and there are plenty of places to eat, drink and hang out. Now that there is a Doctor Seuss connection with the Medical School local wits have started talking about Cat in the Hat & Horton outlets / theme park etc. Never going to happen, this respectable member of the academic US elite would drum it out of the neighbourhood - very politely and with a cogent argument & the opportunity to have mature debate first :0) I loved it, but it isnt for everyone and I wouldnt commend a special trip, however, combine it with brunch, lunc or afternoon tea and it's a nice way to spend a few hours...

Certainly one of the great educational institutions in the country, the campus is a storybook like example of a rural college. There is always something interesting going on on campus. Climb the tower if you get a chance. Geat views. Also the college golf course (Hanover CC) is a treat with a very challenging back nine. Think twice about walking the course though. The hills are killers.

Beautiful town and campus. Probably one of the nicest college settings in America. Would be nice if they kept the canoe livery open in the summer especially since school is in season year round. There are rentals downstream but the river is absolutely gorgeous near campus.

I live in the area so visit the campus area often and have visited the library several times. I cannot think of a college that can compare in overall beauty, friendly village, wholesome places to visit and travel . Great medical center and a wonderful place to live when you graduate.

One time, visiting Dartmouth, I sat on a slope of grass with a few others, listening to a world-class flautist play. How can you beat it? I have seen great plays there, I love the quad, where the Appalachian Trail crosses, and Daniel Webster's classrooms overlook us. The town is, as so many collgege towns, crowded and historic. Fun to look about. Museum very good. Connecticut River right there.
