“Utterly superb”

There's nothing about Pines I didn't enjoy. The ambiance is an understated combination of modern and New England sheik. Our reservation was honored promptly on a busy Saturday evening. The table provided a window view of Main St activity.

We shared an order of Fries with Parmigiano Ailoi. Hand cut potatoes fried crisp, wonderfully seasoned with a side of Ailoi which was well balanced and delicious. Very addicting.

Apps included oysters on the half; Island Creek, Duxbury Ma. Briny, plump little beauties. The Giant shrimp cocktail with Seriously Spicy Sauce nabbed my attention. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, sweet and very fresh (for a frozen product). Yeah, the sauce was spicy but not overly...basically a horseradish cocktail sauce with perfect balance.

Entrees included Cannelloni filled with Butternut squash puree. The pasta sheet were as thin as a sheet of paper. The filling was sublime. Garnished with thinly sliced, fried shallot crisps. I opted for the braised short ribs...boneless Grass Fed (I suspect) beef which was tender; presented on potato puree with a tiny dice of roasted winter root veggies.

We enjoyed a bottle of Italian red from Veneto...fairly priced from a somewhat compact but well chosen list.

John, our server, couldn't have been more pleasant or informative.

I'd go back in a heartbeat...I REALLY want to try the burger. The picture I saw on the website looked outrageously good.

“This is, hands down, the loveliest place in Hanover”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2014

I love the food here, the ambience and for the most part, the service (there is one OVERLY CHATTY waiter who I try to avoid). The swordfish--ask for it rare--is out of this world if done right. The fries with aioli is great and I cannot stop thinking about the mushroom crostini. I like to go here twice a month if I can. Chocolate pnut butter bomb-now back on the menu- is a must to finish your dinner. Dinner salads are sub par.

“Great For Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2014

I've been several times for lunch and it's always a good meal and a good time. The "big salads" are truly big and are made with high quality ingredients. The sandwiches are also very good and the portions are very filling. The daytime bartender Brian is very informative and on top of his service to you.

“A gem”

This is the new restaurant in The Hanover Inn. Upscale, but not pretentious. Great atmosphere, good food and fairly priced.
