We had dinner here our waitress was not overly friendly til the very end of our dinner. The food was average and pricey. The breakfast was by far the best-not because its included in the stay but the choices were great! Probably will not eat there again when staying at the Inn. The first night we had dinner down the street and will go back there again. Something about when your spending money for a dinner out its nicer when the wait staff is more friendly.

Went in on an early weeknight (Monday), it was fairly busy though. Service was a bit slow, but OK. Décor is really interesting and rustic- nice. The food, however was a disappointment. Pretty bland, heavy on the fillers, light on the good stuff and zero creativity. We don't plan to rush back.

We went there for Thanksgiving and enjoyed the authentic New England atmosphere. The beer list was impressive. The food was not that great though. Maybe it's because it was Thanksgiving and they had to serve so many meals but I wish I had stayed home. My turkey was reconstituted so did not have the taste or texture. Instant mashed potatoes but I guess you get that everywhere. Cranberry sauce was strange. Stuffing seemed pretty good. Was there any gravy? I don't remember. Winter squash was okay. Had Indian pudding for dessert and it was terrible. It wasn't that expensive so I guess you get what you pay for. The service was pretty good and they did get us in right on time, no waiting. I'd like to try it again sometime.

This place has a setting that everyone will enjoy, from the authentic ambiance of an old tavern dining room to the huge fireplace in the main room. The menu has an extensive selection of fish specialties, but there's also a good selection of steak, chicken and other delightful dishes. Sundays they have a buffet that cannot be beat! Finally, the entire staff is always friendly, professional and courteous.

This review is based on dinner in the restaurant. We have not been in the tavern and not been there for brunch.
This place is old school all the way, down to the last detail. On entering, the overhead lighting is moderate to low to create ambience and a calming feel. The place has a lot of dark wood in it and many antique- looking wall decorations; making you feel that you are dining in an old historic building (read up on this at their website). In the cooler weather, they have the fire going! Waitstaff are uniformed, pleasant and friendly, but are trained to be professional. The menu is mainly American, specializing in seafood and some Italian (as mentioned by a previous reviewer.) There are plenty of choices. You may have some trouble selecting what to eat if you have dietary intolerances or allergies; as stated, everything is old school so the food tends to be prepared with cheese/butter, bread/cracker crumbs, etc. I would suggest telling your server right away if you have an allergy; I am sure they would work with the kitchen to produce something safe and yummy. (I tend to get steak or tips here for this reason - always good). We LOVE the warm rolls with maple butter. Have never had a bad meal here; food is always good or better. Their home-made chips rock! They have a reasonable selection of beers on tap, and I believe they have a 'martini special' night during the week. Pricing is a bit high, but we think it's worth it for the quality, portions, and ambiance.
Worth it to us to drive 45 minutes to get here. Open all year. Try it out!
