“ready for makeover....”

Hampton Beach State Park will be undergoing a transformation; I believe the current bathhouse at the entrance to Hampton will be coming down and rebuilt as a formal Visitor's Center. This part of the beach near the jetty is nice and not overcrowded.
ALL the state-owned bldgs (further away from the state park) along the water have been fenced-off and are being demolished as I write this. There'll be new boardwalk, bandstand, bathrooms, walkways, shady areas, parking...etc..
What is still problematic is the opposite side of the street where you can find cheap tattoos, palm-readers , tshirts, knife stores, dirty restaurants...way too tawdry for MANY people who used to remember when ALL of Hampton Beach was clean, safe and family-friendly. If you want to stay in Hampton for overnight, REALLY look into where the place is located because it could be nice or downright dumpy.

“A clean, well cared for seaside beach”
Reviewed September 6, 2010

We don't live that far from Hampton Beach so we get to spend the day there a few times a year. As far as my family and I are concerned, it is clean, well cared-for, well managed and well-protected. During the summer season there are plenty of rental cottages, hotels, restaurants, take-out shops, souvenir shops, and a couple of arcades.
During the off-season you can still find a few hotels, some with ocean view.
It is on a fairly narrow barrier island so no one is ever more than, let's say, 1/4 mile from the surf. During the summer there is nightly free entertainment and fireworks on Wednesdays, holidays and during special events. Just now they are building two new bathhouses which will provide terrific new amenities, including showers, for day visitors.
There is a waterslide park one block from the beach which is popular with young people.
If you have the time, take a ride north on route 1-A from Hampton Beach toward Rye Beach and Portsmouth. The scenery and the homes are breathtaking.
In early September Hampton Beach hosts a Seafood Festival which is not to be missed - as long as you don' t mind crowds. There's plenty of music, delicious food, crafts and merchandise booths and "people watching". There is remote parking with free shuttle to the festival which is right at the beach. It is great fun.

I love going there it's clean and close to the boardwalk. I've been going to Hampton for25 years. I don't miss one year.
