Ashworth by the Sea
Ranked #5 of 41 Hotels in Hampton
Reviewed August 6, 2008

Went to Hampton Beach for the first time and stayed at the Ashworth. Rooms are partially renovated and very small, amenities are very limited. However, the hotel looked much nicer and cleaner than any other hotel on the beach. The overall area of Hampton Beach is disgusting and dirty - would not return.

Our 3 night stay, overall, was terrific-but it was only made so by the FEW employees who went out of their way to accomodate us. We encountered a problem immediately at check-in when we discovered that we had been given some erroneous information over the phone, and instead of the hotel wanting to "make it right", they preferred instead to repeatedly quote me their "policy" and that perhaps I had "misunderstood" the clerk. I asked for some compensation as it was their fault, not mine, and after arguing with the front desk manager for at least 15 minutes, she finally agreed to give me a small gesture of compensation, and even then making me feel like it was all my error, not theirs.
When we went to use our dinner "voucher" in the bar/lounge, we got a waitress that was not only rude and disinterested, but disappeared for 20 minutes. My drink was made incorrectly, and my husband had to wait for 20 minutes to get a beer. (they were not crowded). The excuse was that there "was a wedding going on" (which we heard all weekend as an excuse), but if they can't handle weddings and a restaurant, they should think about hiring more help or not doing weddings. To top it off, the "special" of the day was prime rib-however, it was not special in any way and tasted like pot roast.
The other major complaint we have with this hotel is their extreme lack of ice machines. I have never been in a hotel that has only ONE ice machine for 4 floors!! We had to wait every time we wanted ice, for the machine to try and catch up with the demand. It seems a little ridiculous to have one ice machine for 4 floors in a hotel that is on the beach!!
Now, the good parts.
The food we had the next day was very good and arrived quickly.
There were 3 members of the staff that went out of there way to either try and make things "right", or were just wonderfully hospitable and friendly. The dining room manager, Rita, was very apologetic about the problems we encountered and even appeared at our door with a gift certificate for our troubles, asking us to please come back some day; Whitney, a front desk clerk, was exactly the kind of friendly and accomodating person you would want to deal with at the front desk; and, last (but by no means least), Betsy (the bartender) was fun, entertaining, and efficient, and wanted very much to help us have a good time at the Ashworth. They deserve accolades for their efforts to represent their hotel in a positive manner.
We will be returning to this hotel, but we hope they have more ice machines by then! Hopefully, all of the staff will be as great as these three employees were. It was, overall, a great weekend in spite of a few problems.

Our children gave us an Anniversary present to stay at the Ashworth.

Check in time was at 3, we arrived at 12 and we were in our room by 12:05!

The room was brand new, state of the art. A big flat screen TV, beautiful bathrooms with granite tops and a round shower, with a gorgeous floor that almost looked like sand. The room was decorated with fine pictures and the walls were a deep blue and beige. The floor coverings were magnificant.

We had an oceanfront balcony room. We were on the second floor right in front of the Lady of the Sea statue. Sitting there was breathtaking. We had a picture perfect day, with not a cloud in the sky. We spent most of the time on the beach. The water was bright blue and crystal clear.

The staff at the hotel was the best I've ever seen, and I've been to a lot of places. They would do anything to make your stay the best.

The restaurants, bars, lobby were all decorated perfectly. There was a DJ in the bar at night.

The food is great, we had breakfast in the morning and it was super! They also offer room service.

There's a huge deck with a bar...It hadn't opened yet, but, we went up there.

Check out was at 11. Our car was parked in the valet area. We asked if we could leave it there for a while as we wanted to shop. They told us, of course, no problem.

I can't wait to go back to the Ashworth someday soon.

Kudos to the Management and staff of the Ashworth.

We had a memorable stay!

I am going to try and download pictures. I hope it works. A lot of them came out dark.

Beutiful hotel, Beautiful scenery, Great service. No questions asked. I'd reccomend it to anyone. It's the best hotel in Hampton. Might just be a bit too expensive.

If you want to get a good nights sleep -- then stay somewhere else. This is the noisest place I have ever stayed at. We called the front desk to complain several times and nothing was done. People were running down the hallways, banging on doors and nobody seemed to care.

Spent one night here-- just needed a quick get away and some rest. This was the wrong place to look for it. The "after the wedding party" was going on in the room next door til 4AM. Extremely noisy. At one point one of the partiers crossed over to our balcony and hung by his arms over the street 3 floors below. Scary. We contacted the management several times and nothing was done about this--very upsetting. Would never stay there again!

We stayed at the Ashworth while in Hampton for a family wedding. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The valet service was fast and friendly! Loved the food, room, comfy bed, bathroom, widescreen TV, Breaker's Cafe, etc. We've already made reservations for July so we can enjoy the beach. Loved it! Can't wait to go back!
