“Nice View; service not great”
Reviewed October 2, 2007

I stayed at the Town and Country in July, 2007 with family members. First the positives: a great view of Mt. Washington and the surrounding areas; it was pet friendly, and the grounds around the place were extensive. Also, when I wanted a longer walk in the morning, you can drive into Gorham in about 2 minutes, and it's a nice village. The room was clean and large enough, but sort of an average motel room. But the price was pretty reaonable.
The negatives: we had one meal at the on=site restaurant where my wife ordered crab=stuffed seafood, and there was no question it was filled with low-grade canned tuna. The breakfasts were okay, though, and when my parents didn't want to drive into town for dinner the last night we were there, the meals were fine. The view of the Shelburne BIrches from the restaurant was nice; a relaxing atmosphere; waitresses wore uniforms; reminded us of a family restaurant in the 60's.
Two service problems: We had a clogged toilet, and just wanted a quick plunge; it took hours (and a major tongue=lashing of the on-duty manager) to get this accomplished. And, I wanted a quick mapquest to our next destination; the guy at the desk acted like I wanted him to print out the whole New York Times or something--"we don't do that here," he said with a look of disdain.

We stayed in this hotel for one night but absolutely looooved it. We arrived mid afternoon and checked in to our hotel room which was clean but dull and dated. I had to request an iron and iron board from reception - it was quickly delivered !! We stayed in a few hotels during our tour of New England and this one one of our favourites -if not the favourite!!!!!. The spa, sauna and pool was extremely relaxing. The food was fantastic and the evening entertainment was great. In the morning the views were fantastic. This hotel is definately an example of not judging a book by its cover!!!

  • Liked — Pool, Sauna and restaurant service
  • Disliked — Decor was dull. Lack of iron and iron board.

This place wasn't as bad as I expected. It was very cheap compared to North Conway hotels/motels. It has a small, usually crowded with kids, pool on weekends, vacations etc. The restaurant was slow but food was alright. Room was clean with small outdated bathroom, but again clean.

It is very centrally located to many attractions both summer and winter with ski resorts, golf hiking shopping etc. It's is about 20 minutes to Bethel (Maine) so Sunday River is right there along with Mt Abram. North Conway is about 25 minutes away with all the shopping anyone can stand. New Hamshire skiing is anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes away. You could stay here for 10 days, ski a different mountain every day, driving less than an hour per way. Mount Washington, Santa's Playland (or whatever), Six Gun City, Attitash are all close by. Attitash summer activities look REALLY good but are not when price and the huge wait times in line. The wait times here make ski lines or Disney World lines look like a walk in the park.

Good location, probably the best over all motel in the 25 mile area due to price and locale.

Motel was not what we expected from previous reviews. The bathroom had mold on the side and ceiling, the indoor heated pool was very cold. We ordered a refridgerator and it was dirty with a bad odor. When they came to exchange it the staff said they were all like that and she gave it a good spray of Windex. Breakfast was a 45 minute wait for our food when I inquired about the wait the waitress said that there was another larger group and they were priority and if we wanted to cancel our order. I called the front desk for the weather one morning and I was told to turn on the tv to a specific channel. When we said the pool was very cold and got a blank look. On the positive, the view was beautiful, the grounds are very nice and well kept and the breakfast food was very good once it did arrive. The beds are also comfortable.

We were a golf group of 18 people and all thought overall the golf package was a great value for the money. Package included room, 2 meals a day, 18 holes of golf with a cart, tax and gratuties. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. They even let us use an empty banquet room to organize a card game one evening. Wide variety of menu items to choose from and the wait staff was wonderful. Only bad comment would be the noisy air conditioning units in the motel rooms, while they cooled the room sufficiently they were very loud especially for light sleepers. However, that will not stop us from coming back next year. This group has been to many other places in over 15 years and the Town & Country rates near the top of the list for overall value for the price.

We stayed at the "T & C" in December, 2005. It was our first time staying there in at least 15 years. The place hasn't changed much. Rooms are still clean and comfortable. The heat works well, which was important since it was 8 degrees outside. The restaurant was great for breakfast. The lounge closed a bit earlier than we would have liked--last call was 9:30 on a Thursday night. While we typically prefer fancier accommodations, the price was right, and T&C is definitely the best option in the Gorham/Berlin area.
