We chose Gorham as an ideal stopping off point en route from Burlington, Vermont to Bar Harbor, Maine. The hotel is a classic motel style with rooms spread around the car park. We'd booked the Mt Maddison room online for $96.

Reception was very efficient and our room ideal for a 1 night stay. The bed sagged a bit in the middle but other than that everything was fine.

The town is good for a pleasant stroll with a few souvenier shops and restaurants.

The hotel has a small pool and hot tub which are good for an hour or so of relaxing, although it is right next to the main road.

We went to Crabby Jacks for our evening meal, ideal for an informal meal.

In the evening we went for a drive along route 16 hoping to spot some moose unfortunatley we didn't see any but it was a nice scenic drive.

We got up early next day (very early as the previous occupants had left the alarm set to 6.30 am) and went to Glen Ellis falls and then drove to the top of Mount Washington which was well worth the detour.

Gorham is a great stopping off place and the Top Notch is suitable for a short stay.

We stayed for three nights in the Mount Washington Country Room.
This was our second visit to the Top Notch. The room was exceptionally clean. The motel is attractive and you can walk from your room to the shopping and restaurants down town. We highly recommend Libby/s Bistro. The only downsides with the room are its lack of closet/storage space and the very small bathroom with no hair dryer. If you are staying more than a few nights the lack of space could be a problem. On the up side, there is a view of the mountains from your window and the room does feel like a country room. We are planning to stay there again next year.

(We took the moose tour and spend over three hours on a bus. No wild life appeared until we were on our way back and saw a female moose. Not worth the price of the tour.)

This motel is very well situated to see all the sites of Gorham. The motel is very clean and the grounds are beautiful. The price is just right and the staff are very accomadating. We would stay there again and recommend it to our freinds.

I chose this motel from the AAA guide and the TripAdvisor review. It was great- we were only there one night, and the room was the standard old time one-story motel, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable and the furnishing adequate. We had a mini fridge, which was useful. Our car was parked at our door. There were several groups of men staying doing outdoor activities. Wish we had had more time. I wouldn't go to the restaurant next door that was recommended by the motel clerk. Definitely had a bad steak dinner. I'd really rank it 3/4, not just 3.

My family and I have been staying at Top Notch for several years. We travel during the warm months from Burlington to Acadia for business, mixed with pleasure. This motel has got to be the cleanest motel we have stayed in! It appears to be the only AAA approved motel in Gorham, with good reason. Everything is neat and tidy, with a very friendly staff. It just feels very comfortable to be there. There are some restaurants we just adore in Gorham. J's Corner is just next-door, and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner family style. Saladino's Italian, the White Mt Cafe, and Libby's Bistro are wonderful, and with in walking distance to the Top Notch Inn.
If looking for things to do in Gorham, try a moose tour with the town of Gorham. They meet at the town park every evening, and guarantee that you see moose! The Mt Washington Auto Road is minutes away, and brings you to the top of the highest mountain in the East. Storyland is great for kids, as well as Wildcat with their new zip line.
We wanted to let folks know about this little gem of a motel in the White Mts! Enjoy your summer.

Thought we would stay at the Top Notch Inn because it had a good price and looked cute. Well, when we arrived in our room it smelled like smoke, in a non-smoking room!! There were dead bugs in the room and all you could hear was traffic and people running up and down the stairs. We had to park far away from our room too. The real kicker is this: I reserved the room on my debit card but we paid for the room with my fiances card. We were ASSURED that my debit card would not be charged. Well guess what, BOTH of our cards were charged!!! Now, I'm a college student so needless to say I have barely any $$ in my account as it is.. well now I have bills that are late because they still haven't refunded me! My name is Tiffany and she called me Kim, then apologized saying "Oh, I called you Kim because this just happened to another girl named Kim" So this has obviously happened before. So if you dare stay here, pay cash or only give 1 CC number and CHECK your bank accounts!

Room was out-dated and room smelled musty. There was a freight train that ran about 100 feet from the back of the motel and kept waking us up. I wouldn't go back.
