Glen Ellis Family Campground

After reading very positive reviews on Trip Advisor, we decided to book reservations at the Glen Ellis Campground. We are fairly new to RV'ing but not to camping and this campground fit the bill for whatever type of camping you would want to enjoy. From full hook-ups, to 'wilderness' tent sites on the Saco River, there's something for everyone.
We were there just after Memorial Day week-end and the campground wasn't even half full. The section we were in was a 'pull thru' and even though the RV's went in 'back to back', there was enough room for your own space. The site was clean and the central grounds very well maintained and lawn manicured.
Access to both the Ellis and Saco Rivers was close by and we could see why the riverside tent sites would be so popular. There are many (RV) seasonal sites taken (May-Oct) but with over 200 sites, there's plenty left to enjoy.
The bathrooms were very clean and the amenities included a gorgeous looking swimming pool (we opted for the rivers to cool off in), tennis courts, volleyball court, baseball diamond, kids' playground, arcade barn and (public) laundry facilities. The land is level so bring your bicycles - the main 'green' is a nice, safe area to fly kites and for kids to play in. Tubing and fly fishing as well as the views are definitely a must to check out.
Downside is there's no cable and right now Wi-fi is poor to non-existent if that's what you're looking for. The staff is cordial, cheerul and helpful. The 'country store' stocks most of what you'd need (if you run out) without leaving the property. But if you need to venture out, North Conway is minutes away along with the Crawford and Pinkham Notches very close by.
We were very impressed and have already booked for next year. A definite 'gem in Glen'!

We spent Memorial day wknd at Glen Ellis campground. It was the first time we stayed there and we will definitely revisit it.
Pros:We stayed at a full hookup site #15. The grounds were well maintained. Although we did not need bath or showers, the bathrooms we saw were well kept. The showers looked pretty clean. We had our 5 yr old grandson with us and he had a ball at the playground.
The staff was friendly and greeted us warmly. The campground is located close to Conway, so we took advantage of all the fairs that weekend. I think what I enjoyed the most was the fact that we could go out and be back in time for dinner. Speaking of dinner, Margaritas restaurant is right across the street from the campground entrance and the food was great!
Cons(I'm stretching here): Site 14, right next to us, was vacant the whole time we were there. I am hoping this was done on purpose as we literally would have been sharing the same space for relaxation and eating at the picnic tables. As it was, we were very comfortable- but only because no one was at #14. Rather than being back to back, if you will, we would of been front to front with them. The pool, while very clean and well maintained, was cold- which you would expect for the end of May. I was wondering why they didn't heat it. Northern NH isn't known for being hot for any length of time, so a heater would be a good idea. I would have gone swimming had they had one. I think the pool temp was in the 60's. Yes, kids went in....but they came out very quickly! Lastly, they offer an ice cream shoppe. However, it was not opened and didn't look like it was going to be opened any time soon. Not that its really a con, but if you are going to have and publicize it, then have it open for the first big holiday weekend.
As campgrounds go, with all said, I give it a 5. Try it, you'll like it!

Our stay at Glenn Ellis was awesome. We camp a fair amount each year and it is one of the best campgrounds we've stayed at. It is clean, well kept, great for kids, close to attractions, groceries, gas, etc...We've already booked for this year.

A near perfect mix of convenience to town and local attractions and a feeling of being in the remote woods. Well, as remote as one would like to be with a 40 foot camper. We were well situated along a central clearing that offered great play space by day and star gazing at night.

Spent a few nights tent camping in September and boy was I impressed. I have never been to a campground so well maintained. Bathrooms and showers were always clean. I did not have my kids with me but they would have loved it. Great swingset, game room, and pool. I will be back with the family.

Being our first camping trip and venturing outside the comfort of a Hotel room we decided to step into the ring with mother nature. The campground was clean including the bath houses and sites. What separates this campground from others is the lazy river, rope swing ( be careful of the large submerged rocks) in ground pool ( never used because we were in the river most of the day, closeness of North Conway for restaurants and shopping, security of the campground. We camped at site 101 which is the best tent site due to the view of the river and 180 degree view of the river to keep an eye on our kids and family. The owner was very friendly and helpful to accommodate our large family and even brought over a extra picnic table for us. The sound of the river at night was soothing. It is a little more money to stay at this campground but is worth it due to the amenities.

The only complaints I have were two old crows working the front desk. They were not pleasant and friendly to deal with and made us pay the full 100% amount for next year which is not how we payed this trip (50% down non refundable and 50% when we arrived). I also believed the game barn arcade games should be 25 cents and not 50 cents. The tube rentals are $10 a day which can add up if your staying a few days.

We stayed here over Labor Day weekend and had a nice time. We stayed on the Saco River side (which I highly recommend). Our tent sites were a bit close to each other but we managed. There was no privacy but having the bathroom close was a plus. Our kids loved the small current down the Saco River where they could take their tubes and ride the river for a good distance. They enjoyed the baseball field, playground, arcade and pool areas. The grounds are very clean. You forget your at a campground when you see how big their fields are. The office/store was very cute. Again nice & clean well maintained place. We are going to book ahead for next year and get a better spot near the river.

Room Tip: Stay on the Saco River side at the #90's sites. You won't be disappointed.
