We stayed on a weeknight on our way down to Boston, so this wasn't our destination.....this time. From the moment we pulled in and were greeted enthusiastically by Steve and Holly (the resident dog- we met Katey inside a little later :) we felt immediately at home and welcomed. We got checked in to our room late in the day, which was large and comfortable, with a jacuzzi tub- a welcome treat after a long day of driving! We had a few minutes to tour around the house, at Steve's suggestion, and got to see some of the other guest rooms (unbooked rooms are left open, so guests have the opportunity to see the whole inn.) as well as the guest lounges, computer areas, spa, and the cozy Black Bear pub. Once we got settled, headed down for dinner-several wonderful choices, but opted for the lasagna (Steve "bragged" that his sauce is ridiculous, and it was no false claim.). Easily the best lasagna I have ever had. We got to enjoy our dinner, and some great conversation with our hosts, and chatted with some of the other guests before we turned in for the night. The next morning, we had our options for breakfast, and once again, were impressed (the biscuits.....also ridiculous!). We even saw people from other larger hotels popping in to enjoy the breakfast and the ambiance- it's a shame they didn't just stay there instead- they could have had breakfast in their comfy clothes :). I felt quite sad that we didn't have more time to spend checking out the walking trails, enjoying the campfire, enjoying the spa, or just hanging out at the pub chatting. I said it to Steve, and I'll say it here too: they could teach a master class on how to properly and effectively run a B&B, and larger hoteliers could learn quite a bit by staying for a night or two. With this quality of lodging, food, and most impressively, service, this is one business that will thrive whether in high or low season, for years to come, which is good, because these 2 Canadians will be back, with this as our main destination next time!
