Best Western White Mountain Inn
Ranked #1 of 5 Hotels in Franconia
Reviewed August 7, 2012

The White Mountain Inn is nicely located in Franconia, NH not far from Franconia Notch. While the renovations continue, we didn't find them to be a bother over our weekend stay. The interior is okay, the room was reasonably clean. The bathroom was fair, but didn't sparkle. The clerk at the front desk was friendly and helpful, but the desk is not staffed round the clock. The breakfast is what you'd expect. All prepackaged carbs and sugar, processed foods with a piece of fruit or two thrown in for consolation. The dog loved this hotel. They gave him a toy on check in!

I ended up here when the other hotels exceeded my companies dollar amount for travel. I will start off by saying I think they are trying. The renovation is a nice effort and the overall feel of the place is clean. Now here comes the BUT…

I use a sleep machine. Well there is no outlet near the bed. I went to move a table closer to the bed to stretch the electrical cord on my machine and the leg fell off. I stepped on the tile floor in the bathroom and it was sticky so I used flip flops when I went in. I just don’t think they had a clean mop head when they washed it. The toilet well you have to hold the handle until it completely flushes. The furniture and bedspread looked new but there was a chair that was left over from the renovation that should be thrown away.

I dealt with all this just fine but when I woke up from a rough night of sleep and went to the lobby for coffee well it was pathetic. Weak, small cups, no Splenda and I am not even sure it had caffeine in it. I haven’t seen such a poor effort at making coffee in my life. Just so you know there is no alternative close by. Sure they have the one in the room which may actually have been better but does anyone like using those? My business trip was a mess as I just wanted to pull over and sleep all day which I couldn’t. Anyway to refund my day?

This is an adequate hotel, at a good price and in a great location. The hotel was undergoing renovations when we stayed, but the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was fine. The only negatives were the wireless internet, that was slow and intermittent, and the room air conditioner, that was noisy.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a mountain view.

We would NOT recommend this hotel. While they apologized for the exterior renovations they should have apologized (or more) for the interior conditions and lack of cleanlinessness. Our linens were stained and had to be changed. While management was agreeable to our request there was no acknowledgement of the problem nor an apology. Had we discover the filth in the tub before sleeping there we would have left.

What a wonderful break from being on the bike in the heat of the summer! The pool was a real treat. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was amazing! We have such good luck staying at Best Western being motorcycle friendly and location not so off the beaten track that you don't have to ride through a whole pile of city traffic. This one was like oasis off the highway and a nice way to enter the White Mountains!

Room Tip: We just enjoyed our room very quiet.

Franconia is a great area to stay in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and this hotel fits the bill nicely. It's location just off I-93 makes it convenient in getting to other parts of the state. It's definitely worth the extra $10 for the mountain view side of the hotel. The room was very clean and large and had screens on the windows that could open to let in the fresh mountain air. The only two minor problems are that the ice machine wasn't working, and the breakfast seating area is rather cramped. The hotel is under renovation and there is a restaurant on the premises but it's not open at this point in time. It also doesn't seem to have an elevator to the second floor. Lots of things to do in the area, though, in all seasons-----hiking, Mt. Washington auto road, outlet shopping, family advenfures, skiing, aerial tram rides ----and the hotel has discount tickets to many area attractions. All in all, a quiet place to spend time away from home.

Just returned from a 2-night stay with my wife and 2 little girls. The front-desk staff was courteous and allowed us to check in early (which is huge after travelling for 3 hours in the car).
Additional Pros: Great location; Well-kept, Indoor pool; Clean; Contintental Breakfast; Quiet - despite ongoing renovations. Cons: Small Room. Overall, while this hotel offers few frills, for those travelling to (e.g. Santa's Village) it has everything a family would need for a comfortable stay in the White Mountains at a value price.
