We stumbled upon the Horse and Hound by accident after skiing at Cannon. We were told dinner began at ,but we were welcome to come in for an Apres ski cocktail and try some of the vegetarian chili they had in the library.
The Chili was of the charts as was the impeccable restoration of a late 1800's building. We then had one of the best dinners we've eaten in many years complete with 2 wood burning fireplaces roaring in the 2 rooms.
The owner was out and about keeping up with everything and the rest of the staff was wonderful. Our new favorite place in snow country....this will be a tough place to get into in the near future as word continues to spread.

We stayed in the inn last weekend. The owners are very polite and helpful. They keep the beautiful inn spic and span. They served us hot tea in our room, just the way we wanted it and offered us tasty vegetarian dishes when wetold them we donot eat meat. The ambiance of the entire place is very soothing.

We stayed for 2 nights. While the weather didn't cooperate (we only had a dusting of snow, not enough for the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing we were hoping to try), it was nonetheless a wonderful weekend. The Horse and Hound has been recently renovated and everything has been very tastefully chosen. The library and dining areas are very handsome, and the rooms simple but pleasant. We loved the Inn's rustic beauty. We also enjoyed meeting the owners, who were friendly and helpful. Dinners and breakfasts at the Inn were fantastic. (Having dinner there is a must.) And as others have commented, it's a great location with easy access to hiking. It was a perfect winter getaway!

I went there with friends this evening for dinner... and, all I will say is that I am in my late forties and tonight was the first night I have ever gotten goosebumps from a dish....the Salmon with the Blood Orange Buerre Blanc was amazing. Others had the tenderloin (gorgeous cut of meat and perfectly done), the pate as a starter (delicious), and even the vegetables were perfectly done.

We will be back. A lot.

Room Tip: We did not stay at the Inn so cannot speak to the rooms....I accidentally clicked on the Sleep Quality rating above!

Stayed for 2 nights in October.
Very welcoming, great food and generally good service. Breakfast is casual and all home made and freshly prepared. If you stay and want to have dinner, and you should as the menu is excellent, book in advance as the restaurant gets busy with locals, and you can see why.
We had some poor dinner service on our second night and so we gave some feedback to one of the owners, Ken, who was genuinely pleased to get direct feedback.
This place deserves to be long term success and I for one hope that it is!
If you want somewhere to stay in Franconia then this should be it.
( The restaurant should also be listed as a stand alone entry too)
