We made a brief stop at Franconia Notch on our drive through. As much as we enjoyed the scenery from the car, it was even better to get out and walk around. We skipped the Flume Gorge and the $15 entrance fee, and opted to walk around The Basin, instead. The paths we chose were of middling difficulty (although the Basin has a handicapped-accessible viewing area) and took us through some lovely woods.

Loved the ride to the top of Cannon Mountain.
We walked half way around the top of Cannon Mountain. The view is breath taking.

Franconia notch offers some of the best hiking and sightseeing one could imagine. There are waterfalls, rivers, lakes, paved bike trail that is 9 miles long, and the tramway is fantastic. 15 bucks to ride up and down and you can spend as long as you want. We seen black bears 2 Cubs and the mother half way up beneath the tram , the tram is a MUST see. The flume gorge is a natural wonder, with caves and waterfalls. Lots of resturaunts within ten miles and plenty of motels and cabins. Can't wait to return to franconia notch.

The park is well kept and staffed with friendly and helpful rangers. The cost for three adults to take the trails to the "Notch" was $45, but let me tell you... IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY! The trail winds and twists up through the Avalanche Falls canyon and over a very scenic river. The only downside to the walk is that it is quite steep and had many stairs in the "Notch". Quite worth the hike! The visitors center has a nice gift shop and a restaurant. There is also a short 20-minute film depicting the history of the "notch". Most assuredly worth the money.

Great bike path's for safe family biking for miles. Routes are paved and well labelled leading to attractions along the way. Not too hilly so children can manage this ride.
