VERY unfriendly staff....our shower was merely a dribble, and when a complaint was lodged, I was treated with hostility. Poor dinner which was way overpriced, with poor service as well. On a scale of one to ten, I would give this a minus-3.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 1 night and we were pretty underwhelmed, given the price. It was among the more expensive B&B's in the area, and the pictures on the web site looked nice, so we figured we'd give it a try. Our room, the "Shackford Suite" had a jacuzzi and a fireplace - however, the jacuzzi had less than half of its jets working properly, and the hot water ran out before we could get it fully filled. Generally, the bathroom was pretty lame (ugly linoleum floors and no heat). In the web picture, the fireplace had two big cozy-looking chairs close in front of the fireplace; in actuality, it was a small loveseat pretty far away from the fireplace (which is one of those fake gas fireplaces). Our "view" of the mountains was really of an eyesore swimming pool. The included breakfast was pretty average. When checking out, we told the owner about the broken jacuzzi and he said "thanks for the tip" instead of offering us a discount and seeming apologetic. So, altogether, there was nothing particularly special about this place; with prices as they are, we would not recommend it.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Darby Field Inn in August 2003 for a weekend and we loved it! Our stay was only 2 nights and too short. We were pleasantly greeted by whom we thought to be the owners but they were not and they were very gracious and helpful. They were waiting to hear all about everyone's adventures of the day after returning late afternoon. It was our first stay here and we booked "Laura's Room" on the 2nd floor located above the kitchen and entrance way. I think it was the only room available when we made the reservation. The room was spacious and filled with antiques...the bed was simply gorgeous and comfortable. Living in a colonial myself, I can appreciate the slanted floors (a bit) and narrow doors. Not to worry though as the room had a sitting area, desk and plenty of room in the bedroom. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub which we didn't even have time to use but spacious and nicely decorated just the same. Our view was of the gardens in front and side of Inn. The common room had board games and books to read and many old photos of the original owners which I thought was nice to see and learn about. They have a small bar and sun porch area with a few tables where we sat in while waiting for dinner. The food we found to be above average gourmet for both breakfast and dinner. Keep in mind that dinner is open to the public here so if you plan to eat dinner at the Inn make your reservation when you check in or book your stay...especially on a weekend night. They fill up quickly! The views from the dining room are great during the day. Outside, they have a small pool (on the side) and a large stone fireplace (must be great in winter) and chairs out front to bird watch and take in the scenery. Lots of trails to explore. It's quiet here. Not sure what the age allows for children to stay but we only saw one who was probably 13....she looked bored. A nice cozy, romantic Inn. I definitely recommend to those seeking a relaxing get a way!!

Just home from touring around New England. We stayed in the Darby Field Inn for 2 night last week. When we first arrived we were not welcomed very well, and quickly ushered to our rooms like we were an inconvienience to them. It would have been greatly appreciated to have been offered a cup of coffee seeing as we had been driving for 10 hours! Apart from one exchange student working for the summer in the inn, the staff were very unfriendly.

Although our suite was clean and modern, with a sitting room, bedroom and bathroom.

Breakfast was okay, and apparently the view out of the dining room window is nice, although we could not see it as it was too foggy! The dinner is very expensive.

The downstairs common lounge is situated next to the male bathroom, and I found that you could smell them! :-S

We found that the Darby Field Inn was too over priced for what it offered, and out of 5 hotels/inns we stayed in during our trip to the USA, it was the least friendly, and the only one who did not offer any extras at all. Would not recommend this Inn to anyone, and will definitely not be returning!
