The lake was beautiful and at this time of year very peaceful. Tried some fishing here to no avail. Was told by someone that the lake may be fished out.

We took a nature walk here and visited the Lake. The site is beautiful and a nice retreat from all of the tourist-traps in town.

We have been to this area of New Hampshire several times, and for some reason, never visited Echo Lake State Park. What a lovely surprise. I came back to view Cathedral Ledge in the fall, and decided to check it out.

As you enter and drive North through town on White Mountain Highway, turn left onto River Road. (There is a brown sign on the left for Echo Lake State Park at the intersection, but it's easy to miss.) Travel down River road for about one mile, and you'll see the entrance for Echo Lake State Park and Cathedral Ledge on the left.

The park had already closed for the season, but the gate was still open for access. It's open on weekends only beginning on Memorial Day weekend, and then it opens full time from the middle of June until it closes at the beginning of September ($4 for adults, $2 for kids). After that time, it is no longer staffed and the facilities are not available, but you are still able to access the lake and trails.

A short walk from the parking lot takes you to the picnic and beach area. It's a wonderful shaded and sandy park with several picnic tables. It provided stunning views of granite ledges rimmed with fall foliage. There is a scenic trail that encompasses the lake as well (about a mile). On the north side of the lake, Bryce Trail will take you to the top of Cathedral Ledge (about 1.2 miles long).

We loved visiting Echo Lake State Park. We walked around the lake and enjoyed it. We watched as climbers scaled the nearby rock face. We were nearly alone on the day we visited. Great place for a picnic, I am sure!
