“Obnoxious place in a peaceful setting”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

This campground cares little for the peaceful serenity of being at the lake. Extraordinarily loud music on the beach with someone squawking in a microphone. It is totally unnecessary on such a small beach. No lifeguard. understand why they have the rap they have. If you are looking to be in the quiet peaceful woodlands forget about this place. They have a total lack of consideration for those trying to enjoy this gorgeous setting. If I could give no rating I would.

Staff friendly but facility not up to the standards we'd found at other campgrounds on our vacation. Nearby bathroom needs updating, never had soap in men's room, shower was "not yet turned on" even though it was Memorial Day weekend. Something was said at check in about one shower area or the other turned on, they couldn't remember which, and not both. Why not? There were campers in both areas. Advertised wifi was pretty much not there for me, I was able to grab a weak signal only once during our entire stay. Exposed electric cables in the ground were a concern for us - should have been buried. Drainage seems to be an issue, some places never drained at all during our visit. $10 deposit charge for a key card to open the entrance gate - seemed like a good idea but the gate was always up every other time we came through the rest of the time we were there. What was the point of making us get a card then?

The weather during our visit was awful - cold, wet, and windy. That can't be helped. Not the campground's fault. It was bad enough for us in our tent, though, that we decided to leave a day early and head for home. No refund for the unused day. Disappointed that there couldn't be at least a little consideration for the conditions. It would have gone a long way toward making us feel better about our stay.

And the title - we were surrounded (not closely as we were in a group of four sites that were for short term camping) by seasonal campers. I'd say 75% of the campground is seasonal sites. Noise level more than at any other place we'd been on this trip though it didn't extend into the posted quiet hours.

All in all I'm sure this is a very comfortable place for the seasonals but I wouldn't recommend it for a short term camper, though its location was good for exploring the area.

It is a bit sketchy as you enter the camp. The staff were friendly, appreciative and helpful. It's a fairly big layout with various sections and a large ball field in the center with a playground and bb court.. The staff leave you alone and don't bother anyone. It seemed to us to be heavily populated with permanent campers. We had a big group and had a few sites close together, which worked well for us. It we had only taken one of those sites, we may have felt like the site lacked privacy. But the biggest downfall is the bathrooms. While the showers were fine, and free, the restrooms were terrible. Sinks gross and the toilets had very low water pressure, so you can take it from there...We steered our kids away from entering the lake. It didn't look clean. I would have given it a 3 because after dark it is fine, but I couldn't get over the restrooms.

My family and I stayed in the Iona Cabin. I was charged the deluxe price but there was NOTHING deluxe about it. Nothing in the cabin seemed to be maintained. The lights in the kitchen did not work. The a/c was broken. The windows were broken. They couldn't provide us with a key to the front door so they said they would "keep an eye on it". Everything in the cabin smelled musty and dirty. They advertised WiFi although our cabin didn't have any reception. The cable tv stopped working. The water pressure in the shower was HORRIBLE!! They used plastic accordion doors for the 2 bedrooms and bathroom and all were broken. There were random wires sticking out of the walls, which my 20 month old tried to play with. There were bureaus in the living room that were filled with other people's clothes. There was garbage (scrap metal, broken down trailers, old bicycles) all around the outside of the cabin. And the list keeps going....

We wanted a family camping weekend that would accommodate everyone and Pine Knoll did just that.We were a family of 10 and we rented one of the adult sites #119.We looked up every review we could find and i was almost petrified into canceling our trip but was so glad we didn't! i Don't know why most people were saying it was party central because it wasn't at all! Yes some of the seasonal's were a little run down and should be told to clean up a little but every person we saw was friendly and always greeted us with a smile and a hello.we will be definitely staying there again!

We stayed 3 nights at Pine Knoll this month with our 6 children, and had a wonderful time. Sites are very well cared for, staff very nice & helpful, beautiful swimming lake, fun activities for children (flashlight candy hunt!), prices very low & reasonable; we highly recommend Pine Knoll. To quote my 10 yr old daughter: "Best place ever!"

This is a horrible place. Loud and full of party people. The bathroom smelled like sewage backup and in spite of my reporting to the office that there was no soap or paper towels in the ladies room, during my 2 days there this was never attended to. There were people down by the beach smoking pot in their campsites. Loudness and partying going on all weekend. Will NEVER go there again! Don't waste your money, go somewhere else.
