i cannot believe i didnt try this restaurant sooner!! everything was amazing! Why go to the common man and spend $24 on a mediocre and predictable fillet, when you can go to this little gem and get spiced duck confit for under 20? They even comb the tables in between meals! The mussels were amazing in a dreamy broth, perfect crostini, i just cant say enoug about this place, and needless to say will not be wasting any more money on filler restaurants.

I have eaten here twice now, once for breakfast and once for dinner, both were disappointing. For breakfast the eggs were fine, but everything else was undercooked and parsley was everywhere. In general, any greasy spoon I have had breakfast at served a better breakfast.
For dinner I started with the tomato bisque, it was cold (not cool, COLD), bland, and covered in cheese. For my entree I ordered the petite filet with butter poached lobster tail which arrived absolutely covered in parsley. The lobster tail was a sliver of lobster, around 1/4 the size of a lobster tail and tasted like it was just boiled. Not one hint of butter or seasoning on the meat at all, but it was edible. The filet (ordered MR), unfortunately, was not edible. It was the toughest piece of meat I have ever tried to eat. The waitress was very apologetic and offered to have them cook me a fresh filet, which I accepted. About 30 minutes later the replacement filet arrived and it was even tougher than the first. I cannot image what you do to a filet mignon to make it so tough you struggle to cut through it with a steak knife, but they found a way to do it twice. These meats were served with crushed yukon potatoes and shallots. The potatoes, like many other things, were surprisingly bland and the shallots were overcooked.
The only real saving grace was the egg nog cheesecake which was absolutely delicious, but hardly worth the $80+ they charged me for just my meal which was, other than dessert, worse then you can get almost anywhere else.

I'm happy to pay this much for an exceptional meal. The meal at the Granite Room is typical trendy fare I could get at 10 other restaurants. I was disappointed and paid way too much for run of the mill modern cuisine. The atmosphere however, is exceptional and I'd come back for drinks and a snack, not a whole meal.

This restaurant on the main floor of an Inn has very good food and an interesting if not too extensive wine list. All main dishes are available in half as well as full portions, which is marvellous for those who like to taste as many dishes as possible, or who simply like to eat well without overeating. The menu has both classics - steak, simply done fish - and more unusual dishes. Everything tasted very good and was well presented without being cutesy. The diners appeared to be a mix of hotel guests and locals, and the general feeling at dinner is very comfortable - neither sloppily causual nor stuffy-fancy.
