I went twice in 4 days. It was wvery close to the Fairfield Inn where I was staying on business. Parking lot was full on second visit but they have an overflow lot across the street.

Place is huge. I ate upstairs at the bar. Good local beers on tap-Smuttynose, Tuckerman's, Boston beer almost local). The first night I had the special-fresh swordfish with a white sauce, very good. The second time I had their crab cakes and a cup of their lobster corn chowder. Crab cakes were fantastic. Waitress was pleasant and talkative.

On Wed. nights they have 1/2 price on bottles of wine. Every bottle is half off. Cheese and crackers for free and they give you pieces of white chocolate for dessert. Both meals with a beer was about $25-30 before tip. I recommend.

Wow! We started our dinner with free cheese and crackers, which were good. Then we moved onto the Lobster Chowder, which was delicious. We then had the Portsmouth Pie, which was outstanding! Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. CJ our waiter was very good and we enjoyed the whole experience. Please stop in for good food and atmosphere.

Have eaten at The Comman Man before and I have to say the food is still good. It the typical American dinner. We were a large group and we ordered a variety of dishes. The escargot was done well not the very tasty French style but it was well flavored, however ever you have the sense that it was pre made many days before and just thrown in the oven to be warmed. The salad was okay. For the main course, the bake pasta type dishes were heavy with cream and sauces, it didn't have the nice light flavorful taste as you would get in a fine dinning place. The steak was not tender, this was the one dish that did not turn out well.
The service was over done. Our waiter kept pushing dishes and just over selling , trying to be friendly. At one point, it just got too much. But this could just be with this one individual.

We had three apologies for slow service. The real problem seemed to be that our server seemed more intent on extracting his tips from vacated tables than attending to us. My salmon was great and well priced. Steak was ordinary. We were recommended by our hotel- was there a cosy deal here?
