We went on a Friday night and it was really busy. We waited a while. Staff was friendly and service was good once we were seated. The burger was fabulous! Wow. We will definitely be back.

Based on the excellent reviews here, I was excited to have a meal or two at The Barley House. Sadly, it fell short of expectations. The Blarney Puffs were tasteless. The stew, while tasty, was lukewarm and needed quite a bit of extra salt. The fish and chips were bland. The selection of beer and spirits was impressive, but the food just did not live up to the hype.

We went on a Saturday- we tried to get a reservation but they were not taking them. We had a 7:30 show to go to, and arrived at 5 PM. Upon arrival, we were told there was a 20-30 minute wait. We waited and waited. We asked to eat in the bar but were refused. Over an hour later we were finally seated. We asked to see the manager, but he never came to our table. In her defense, our waitress tried hard, but there just wasn't enough time (in her estimate for us to get entrees, so we ended up just getting salads and then having to leave for the show. This was not the waitresses fault, the kitchen was just that slow apparently.

I would certainly not recommend this place on a weekend, unless you enjoy sitting around waiting to be seated, and then waiting for food. I don't know what it's like during the week, and will likely never find out.

I had the crispy chicken cooked with a brick - it's not fried, which is great. The seasoning was just right and I loved it. My companion had the mac & cheese with grilled chicken - a huge portion with the right balance of pasta and cheese. It wasn't the usual bright yellow gloppy mess that most restaurants give you.

The server was good, too. We had one person in our party with dietary restrictions, and the server made some great recommendations and offered up some modifications that she worked out with the kitchen.
