Colonel Spencer Inn
Ranked #2 of 3 Campton B&B and Inns
Reviewed May 4, 2008

My wife and I have stayed four times at the Colonel Spencer inn, and have loved every stay. The owners are very friendly and the food is superb.

The historical charm of the property is fascinating, and worth a visit on its own.

We also absolutely love the area. We really enjoy hiking, and there are tons of great hiking trails within minutes of the property, which is a big plus for us.

I would highly recommend this inn to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend or vacation. Very fair prices as well.

I just returned from a recent weekend vacation to New Hampshire where my stay was absolutely wonderful at the Colonel Spencer Inn. The inn is one of the most historic buildings I have been in outside of a big city and the authenticity added to the experience.

The room was not only spacious but very clean and tidy. Each morning, the inn keepers would ask if I needed new towels or not and I appreciated them asking since some bed and breakfasts I've stayed in automatically change them. To me, this is a waste of resources. It is nice to see the Colonel Spencer Inn being environmentally conscious and giving their guests the choice.

Breakfast was amazing each morning. A wonderful first course in either homemade bread or muffins followed by "make my own" pancakes one day and omelets the next. Everything tasted fantastic.

I searched for other inns in the area before booking at the Colonel Spencer and their price was right on. It is definitely worth the money and the location is excellent. I will definitely be back!

My husband and I have stayed at the Inn twice in the last two years and plan to go back again in June 2008. There's a special charm about the historic structure and the surrounding area. The owners are gracious hosts and are quite knowledable about the history of the Inn and the area. The narrow front staircase (in addition to a main staircase at the entrance) brings back memories of visiting grandparents in childhood. The Inn is located close to several area sites and activities, and of course, the mountains. It is a nice quiet place to relax, enjoy a book or movie by the fireplace, or a chat with other guests at the end of the day. It's a comfortable place - like going home at night. The rooms are always clean and decorated appropriately for the period. It's also great to have a private bath (with shower) in each guest room. While some of the baths may be a bit smaller, they are ample, and I, for one, can truly appreciate keeping the structure as original as possible. It adds to the charm! Breakfast is scrumptious - I don't think we've ever had the same thing twice! We always enjoy our stay at this B&B and do look forward to being able to visit every year in the future. We're even thinking about retiring to that area!
If you're looking for a quiet (perhaps romantic) place to stay with exceptional hospitality and have an appreciation for the history of the Inn and the area, this is the place for you!
