“Perfect historic mountain resort.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

My husband and I came up here on a romantic weekend to celebrate our mutual birthdays. We love historic hotels so this one, being built in 1902, certainly fit the bill.

Let me start by saying the hotel is amazing. We took the hotel tour before we left and found out that there have been multiple, extensive renovations to not only winterize the hotel but to preserve its historic flavor. The brass light fixtures, for example, are all original, as are the Tiffany windows. Every column has ornate decorations, every wall has another piece of Bretton Woods and/or NH history on it. We spent a lot of time exploring the great hall, the sitting rooms, the Gold Room, etc.

The grounds are extensive. You have a full set of hiking trails, golf course, tennis courts, etc. We enjoyed, however, the expansive veranda where we grabbed a drink and simply stared at Mt. Washington (which is literally in your backyard). We did not have much time to fully experience the hotel, also we were there during the tail end of autumn so playing a round of golf and lounging by the pool weren't exactly conducive to the 50 degree weather.

Now, the staff also made our experience quite magical. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly, helpful and happy to be there. From the moment we arrived they really did treat us as incredibly special guests that they were excited to host.

I may be biased on the food since we did only one true full meal here and a light breakfast (we skipped the buffet because of our main meal). We had the "golden sash dinner" which was a five course tasting menu cooked by the chef with our input. It was so much fun for us to plan it out with Chef Kevin! Our meal was by design very autumnal, using lots of squash and local flavors. From the moment we arrived in the gorgeous octagon dining room with the fantastic views to every perfect course with the impeccable wine pairings we had a magical evening.

Overall, I would love to return here in the springtime or maybe earlier in the fall. It was a lovely place for us as a couple but I noticed that there is so much to explore here I am quite positive families could easily spend a week here and not enjoy everything it has to offer. It is well worth the trip and the expense.

We stayed here for two nights on our trip around New England. The hotel itself is magnificent, but that is well documented. What made it great were the staff. We arrived late, but they were happy to re-arrange our Dining reservation to accommodate this. This helpfulness set the scene for the stay - it is the helpful friedly staff that make this a Great Hotel. The restaurants (we ate in the Formal Dining Room and Stickneys) were both excellent with good food and good staff. The reception, valet and bell-hop staff we encountered were all excellent and understood what a Hotel like Mount Washington should be about, but without being aloof.

Room Tip: We initially had room 338, which is the room that is off the Lift Lobby. It was so noisy we asked to...

This resort is made up of a number of accommodations, we stayed at the main hotel. The hotel building is a historic landmark and has recently been renovated. Both the building and the grounds are beautiful. The bedroom was stunning and the bed was properly one of the most comfortable we have come across in our travels. We are preferred Omni members and therefore received complimentary tea and coffee every morning, unfortunately they only managed to provide what we had requested on two of the five mornings. All our dealings with the front desk, the concierge and especially the bell staff were outstanding. All were attentive, friendly and very helpful. The resort is spread over a large area and a free shuttle is provided to transport guests to any part of the resort. The longest we had to wait was 3 - 4 mins. There is a gym and both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. For a hotel, this was one of the better gyms we have used. There is also a beautiful spa, however it should be noted that this is expensive and a 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. There are several restaurants at the resort. We did not have dinner at the main dining room due to the dress code ( jacket required, no jeans ). However we had breakfast which was very good, but expensive at $20 per person. The second restaurant is Stickneys described as a bar / grill. The service was slow and uninterested. It was clear the waitress thought we part of a coach party who were only staying one night (this was not the case) and was therefore indifferent to our requirements. When she realised that we were in fact staying more than one night she briefly became more interested. My husband had steak which he enjoyed. I had battered fish and chips which was luke warm and soggy. Having waited so long to be served decided it was too painful to return. For what it was the food was very expensive. On another night we ate at the Bretton Arms described as casual fine dining. Again the service was slow and disinterested. I had the pate as a starter which I really enjoyed, followed by Scallops, which were undercooked to the point of being raw. My husband had the seafood pasta, the pasta itself was so overcooked it was more like suet, the prawns were also overcooked, whilst the scallops were undercooked. The sauce was just stewed tomatoes with a bit of chilli and was almost entirely tasteless. All in all it was very disappointing for what was a very expensive meal.
Having not really enjoyed these experiences for our remaining three nights we ate at Fabyan's. This was the resort "pub", less than a 5 min journey by shuttle bus from the hotel. The service here was friendly and efficient. The menu was simple but very good and reasonable priced. We woudl not normally have eaten at the same restaurant for three nights. However, because the resort is fairly remote, unless you wish to drive for some time you have no option but to eat at what is available at the resort. Stables are available at the hotel with trail and carriage rides around the resort. We went on an hour long trail ride which was very enjoyable. The staff were extremely friendly and at $50 per person thought this was reasonable priced.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay, but felt let down by our food experiences.

Our 3 night stay at the Omni Mt. Washington was terrific. The scenery, food, room, and friendly staff made the trip an unforgettable one. We loved the spectacular Princess Caroline room, ....beautifully decorated and spacious, (but not its location). Both food and service at the Bretton Arms restaurant were outstanding. We particularly appreciated having coffee and muffins delivered to our door each morning, as "preferred" omni members. Very convenient. Also found it fun to watch "My Fair Lady" in the downstairs Cinema. Excellent gift shops, too.

Room Tip: We found room 317 too noisy since the bed backs up to stairs. They seemed to be in use from 5 in the...

We spent 3 nights here this week. We had a wonderful time. This is a top notch resort, everyone was so kind. We were on the 3rd floor with a beautiful view. We saw snow for the first time and the leaves changing at the same time. The experience was incredible. The 2 bedroom suite was spacious (large enough for all 5 of us) We loved the old elevator, never had to wait to long for it.

Room Tip: be sure to ask for a mountain view ( we were in room 332 with a great view)

The hotel setting is stunning. The hotel is a gem, with its high ceilings, Tiffany glass, great facilities and fascinating history. We spent a week-end there in October. The trees were slightly passed their prime, but still beautiful. The staff are wonderfully helpful. The room was a little tired, and curiously had only one nighttable and lamp (which housekeeping corrected for us). The bathroom was very nice. We had a little problem eating lunch - all the places in the hotel had huge waits. Dinner reservations are a must.

When we arrived we were told we were "upgraded". We were celebrating our 25th Anniversary and had made our reservations in Feb for a mountain view room. Our upgrade was a two bedroom suite with scaffolding view. We were given the excuse that the rooms were taken because checkin was at 3pm according to Chris and it was only 3:30. I was surprised esp since I had called earlier in the morning to see if we could checkin earlier since we were arriving sooner then we planned. Imagine my surprise to find out that our room can be given to someone else in half an. hour from the start of checkin time. I called about our room regarding the view of scaffolding which was not even on the moutain view side. Chris offered to discount our room and said he could see if he could find a room the next day. we decided to go to dinner. so as we were leaving our room to go to dinner we see another couple being moved to another room with a better view because of the scaffolding issue. I then went to the front desk and wanted to know how they got another room and Chris wasn't certain he could find one for us.Alicia was at the desk now and I had to explain everything all over again and to mention that a two separate bedroom suite doesn't actually enhance our anniversary experience as Chris was selling it. To my surprise she apologized and said she would find us a room for the next day and she called within half an hour with a room number and with a mountain view. I felt she cared more about customer serice then Chris did. Overall we loved the food, grounds and the views.
We feel Chris should have been more up front and less deceitful.
