“Credit Card Number Stolen”
Reviewed February 28, 2012

When we checked in we were asked for a credit card number for incidentals. This is customary so we gave our American Express card. This was the only time we used this card within the last 12 months. Within two days we saw $1,500 charge made from Spain for an internet purchase, and two other internet purchases from Florida. We had to cancel the card immediately. The responce from the hotel? "Keep us in the loop if you get any information".

Watch who handles your credit cards, and any unauthorized charges afterwards.

We are sorry to hear about the problems you experienced with your American Express card. We take the safety, security and satisfaction of our guests very seriously, so comments like this are concerning. We have investigated the situation from our end and do not see any indication that the security and privacy of your card number was compromised. If there is anything else we can do to help with your investigation, please contact us directly. Thank you for choosing The Lodge for your stay, and we hope that you will give us the privilege of welcoming you back in the future.

If you are coming up to the Mount Washington/Bretton Woods Resort Area, you cannot beat The Lodge for value. Great location. And, if you have kids the pool is terrific.

The overall resort experience was pleasant. We stayed at the Lodge because of the fantastic military discount. The lodge is just that, a motor lodge. It is not Five Star. It's the cheapest nightly option on the property. If your mission is to be outdoors the whole time the lodge is fine. I would not have paid full price tho. The best thing about the Lodge was Cindy at the front desk and the pool area - which my family enjoyed every night.

Food at the resort facilities is pricey. Our favorite meal was at Stickneys and least favorite was at Fabyans. We paid $10 for lift tickets to Lat 44 and were upset with the food. If we went back again, we would still do the lift thing, and just get coffee and hot chocolate and enjoy the view from the top :)

Lodge Room - It's a lodge. Most people staying here are here to ski. Ski gear is loud and can be dirty. Our room was generally clean and only smelled damp the first day (maybe we got used to it). Our room had 2 queen sized beds. Bed and pillows were average. Towels were clean, replenished. Bathroom was clean. There is a little wet bar/sink area outside of the room which is nice, even tho there is no microwave or fridge. It was cold enough outside that we left our left overs from the restaurant in the car overnight :)

I would recommend the Lodge if your primary concern is not the quality of the room, and if you do not pay full price or regular price. I met people who booked on Expedia, and people who booked via a Ski and stay free package. I met someone who was paying $280 a night and hated it. It is what it is :)

Also, there is a $20 "resort fee". Caught me by surprise when I was making our reservation on line. I had to call the hotel to ask what this is. Apparently, the fee exists to cover the wi-fi, shuttle service, pool maintenance, and valet parking at the main hotel. The Wi Fi was terrible. We had none the first day and had to call tech support ourselves. Between the 2 days my husband and I called Tech support 5 time. If your work or school depends on Wi Fi, look into other arrangements while you stay here. There is no getting around the Resort Fee. I mentally added it to the cost of the room and just accepted this charge.

Hope you enjoy your next adventure!

Room Tip: Second floor has a better view of Mt. Washington and you won't hear all the pounding ski boots o...

The Lodge at Bretton Woods is the cheaper option of the hotels in the resort area, with a nice view of the big expensive hotel across the street and of Mount Washington, if it isn't hidden behind clouds.
The room was basic, but spotlessly clean. I read some reviews, where they talked about damp and smelly rooms, but that was certainly not our experience. The rug in our room looked pretty new, so maybe they renovated it recently.
We had a room with a King size bed, which I like because it leaves more space to move about in the room, though they rooms are a nice size from the start. The bed was comfortable, and there was a selection of pillows and I found one that was just perfect for me as a back-sleeper.
The base lodge of the ski resort was just two minutes down the road, we could have even walked if we wanted to. They have a shuttle service for those that don't want to take their cars, and that is advisable if they have lots of snow, as that reduces the available parking spaces close to the base lodge.
After a day of skiing we took advantage of the nice indoor pool, jacuzzi, and sauna, to sooth our sore muscles. I just wished they had towels right there, so one wouldn't have to go to the front desk to pick some up, but then that wasn't that big of a deal. If you want to use the sauna, make sure to turn it on right away when getting to the pool, because it takes about 20 minutes for it to get hot enough.
The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff could have done a better job. Don't get me wrong, they cleaned the bathroom nicely, but could use a lesson or two in how to make the bed. It seems she just pulled the blanket straight without first making sure the fitted sheet was pulled tight. After two nights the sheet started bunching by my feet.
One other thing I wish they had was a refrigerator and a coffee maker, but I guess they have their reasons not to provide those.

All in all our stay at the Lodge at Bretton Woods was a pleasant experience. we would definitely stay here again, when coming to ski at Mount Washington.

PS: Breakfast is not included in the prize, so you will have to go out. The breakfast buffet at the Mount Washington hotel across the street is $20 per person. If you don't want to spend that much money on breakfast each morning, you can drive 10 minutes to Munroe's Restaurant, it's a small diner-like local place in Twin Mountain (the front desk staff will give you directions). Breakfast there cost us half of what it cost at the hotel.

We stayed at the Lodge overnight with a skiing package for Bretton Woods. We drove up early so we could ski a half day Sunday before checking into the hotel. We found out that local residents get a substantial discount on Sunday afternoon skiing so the mountain was packed. That is great for the area kids but not so great with the price of lift tickets for out-of-towners. The hotel was comfortable but worn. There was coffee available in the lobby but front desk staff was unfriendly.

Having stayed at the Bretton Arms in 2007 and found it very comfortable we wanted to return but they were fully booked so we were offered the Lodge, We were very disapointed with the accommodation the room was very shabby, beds had seen better days and the room smelt of damp. The staff were very helpful and friendly but it was not explained to us when booking the resort took a holding fee of $210 PER NIGHT. As this was the end of our holiday and we had a pre paid credit card this tied up most of our money.
Having had a moan about the resort, it is a beautiful location must do's are Cog Railway to the top of Mt Washington and the Flume at the Franconia Notch State Park.

An ordinary motel, with great views of Mt. Washington and the big Mt. Washington Hotel! Coffee and tea were provided but no breakfast.A little "down at heels"...They had a pool and sauna but given the season we did not use them.
