This is a great alternative to the "Castle in the Clouds" just above. We stayed here the week-end after the Columbus Day holiday. It was still expensive ($329) but cheaper than the its parent, the Mount Washington Resort AND it included a breakfast at either place (buffet at the Mount Washington or a la carte at the Inn). We have never stayed at either place although we have driven by and said "maybe someday". You want to choke when you see the prices but it's something everyone should do once. For one thing, the view when you drive in is indescribable. Kind of like describing the Grand Canyon to someone who has never been.....the resort is dwarfed by the mountains behind it. Everything at the big hotel is...well "BIG", from the porches, to the lobby, to the fireplace. Every woman should make a date to go to the spa and do nothing. Pay $25 just to sit in the relaxation room, take a sauna or steam and hang out for the day. Splurge on spa services but you could come out completely relaxed just by hanging out! There is also a co-ed outdoor whirlpool. Take a jaunt down the path from the resort hotel to the inn and you feel like you just stepped back in time to a place when it used to be a farm house. The staff is attentive, the parlor with the the fireplace is cozy as is the bar and restaurant. We stayed on the 3rd floor in an end room looking out into the woods (we got one of the last two rooms available). The room had a closet bigger than mine at home, a rain shower shower head and a spa bathrobe (not the thin cheesy kind or even the thick terrycloth kind you usually get in most 4 star hotels)-this was a heavy soft bathrobe! The pillows and bed were to die for and we had turn down service that night, much to our surprise. We had breakfast at the inn the next day which was wonderful, topped off by a pleasant surprise brought to our table, a raspberry smoothie in a tiny shot glass. Reminded me of when we used to be given "palate cleanser" sorbets between courses at some of the finer restaurants in the 80's. (Maybe they still do this at the finer restaurants...we don't go to those places anymore, not worth the price you pay for what you get-we eat just as well at home!). Anyway, this Inn is a more affordable place than the hotel above, although I have to say, I'm socking money away to do that the next time.....
