The Bretton Woods Canopy Tour is a blast! Well run and thriling zip line tour and rapelling. The guides are great and the 3 1/2 tour is not one to miss. They take you up the mountain and with only short walks downhill to the various platforms makes it pretty easy. There are about 9 zip lines, some as long as 800+ feet! Many with specatular views as much as 170 feet high! The rapelling starts easy and ends with a 75 foot drop. All in all a wonderful way top spend time in the White Mountains. Plus you can get a CD with all the pics they get of you while on the tour.

The canopy tour at Bretton Woods is a series of 9 zip lines, 2 rope sky bridges, and 3 rappels. It takes about 3 hours, but the first hour or so involves getting the gear on, traveling to the top of the course, and thorough training. The guides were excellent. We had Neal and Paul -- seasoned guides, EMTs, and ski patrolmen. They were completely dedicated to our safety and fun. The age range in our group of 9 was from 13 to 70+. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience and found it exhilarating. The most dangerous part is walking! Paths are rugged, rocky, up and down, and muddy in places. Wear shoes with good treads or the boots that the tour provides. Padded gloves and helmets are provided. Even in early October, the weather was cold and windy. We saw snow flakes. Dress in comfortable layers. The tour runs year round in any weather, costs around $100. Great, good fun.

We just got back from New Hampshire where we stayed at a great place called Mount Washington Hotel (will review that seperately) and did one of the funnest zip lines ever. I should say they corrected me by saying this was a canopy tour not a zip line . . . a technicality to be sure. Anyway what a BLAST! 9 stations, the first 2 are just to get you comfortable, and then you are off, zipping through the trees sometimes a few hundred feet up. We were there at near peak for the foilage color change and it was magical. Crossing long suspension bridges, rapelling (sort of, a guide is at the bottom, controlling your decent) and then zip a dee do dah. Had several friends with us, and a family from Australia. The guides were professional, full of interesting information and really into making sure everyone had a good time. If you ever are in the area, it's a must do. About 3 hours from start to finish, with a healthy appetite for a cold beer and lunch/dinner afterwards.

This was so much fun. Let me start with our guides John and Mike. They were top notch and I cannot give them enough stars. They were personable, funny and made the whole thing so much fun. We were all naturally a little nervous at first, but their antics kept the mood light and funny. Spent so much time laughing all day. They even took lots of pictures and videos of us with our camera even though Bretton Woods tries selling you professional pics for $50.

This was not as scary as it sounds. It was exhilerating. I cannot wait to do it agin. Totally worth the price of $110 per person. Group was small. 8 people with two tour guides. You will start on a lower zip line and work your way up to the bigger ones.

Again, I cannot express enough how much fun this was and how great our guides were.

I was worried that you had to have strong upper body strength to zip line but that is not the case. Anyone can do this, unless you have a major fear of heights. The instructors are fun and funny and safety is their number one concern. You will be harnassed up prior to taking a ski lift up the mountain. From that point you will go on a short hike over to a training rope area to learn how to brake and stop. This is where you get to practice just barely above the ground. After that you will go thru 8 zip lines, 2 times you will be rappelling down from platforms and once walking over a rope bridge. At all times you are securely fastened via clips to safety cables. The group is 8 or less so that it gives you opportunity to bound with others. Tip: If you have your camcorder along, ask one of the guides to go across and tape it. You won't be able to record on your own as both your hands have to be available for controlling your descent. Wear comfortable pants or shorts, nothing too tight. You can bring a camera and sunglasses. Everything else leave in your car or give to the lady at the counter to hold so that nothing flies out while you are buzzing along over tree tops. I think they said the one long zipline was 23 seconds to get across. You do fly. After getting used to controlling your landing, it takes a turn when you do the last racing zipline which they control instead. If you have a bad back, do not do this one as you will be whipped to a standstill. It is pretty cool tho when you see the landing come up upon you and you feel like you are going to smash beyond it only to be yanked still at the last moment. A good rush to end the day. If you have a life bucket list, this should be on there.
