“Felt Like Home!”
Reviewed September 10, 2007

I booked a 2-day stay at the Bear Mountain Lodge based on reviews I read here on TripAdvisor, so I thought I should return the favor. Everything I read is true. Although we just missed seeing a bear!

My husband and I truly felt at home - Mike and Carol were so welcoming. Lodge is beautiful, with thoughtful details throughout. Breakfast is delicious. And, every question, no matter how many times asked, is answered with humor and patience. Rocket is great too!

Bear Mountain Lodge was our 1st B&B experience and we cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed it! Because of mobility issues, we had thought staying in a B&B was not an option for us... until we discovered this NH gem!

There are FOUR 1st floor rooms to choose from, all walker/cane accessible plus one is officially ADA-accessible. Our room [“White Tail”] was literally steps away from both the great room and dining room.

An expansive deck, with a breathtaking view of the mountains, was equally accessible via extra-wide openings to accommodate all mobilities. The hallway leading to our room had motion-sensitive lighting, providing for ease of mobility and comfort. Two telescopes were available [for star-gazing or mountain viewing] and could be lowered for use while seated. Board games, puzzles, a computer and refreshments were available.

Breakfast, tailored to individual preferences, was served by owners, Michael and Carol. They were knowledgeable about the area and “right on” with recommendations for restaurants and activities. We could be as busy or as relaxed as we wanted.

If you are looking for a mountain retreat, choose Bear Mountain Lodge!

My husband and myself just returned from the labor day weekend in White mountains and stayed at the Bear Mountain Lodge. It was lovely- the property is beautifully located with views of Mt. Washington from all the windows and the lodge itself is very pretty as its made from logs. The innkeepers Michael and Carol themselves manage the place and have thoughtfully & tastefully done it up. Our traveling jobs keep us in hotels most of the year and this place was a welcome change as it is an ideal combination of the homely, tasteful and comfort.

They have limited rooms- all rooms have different themes and good facilities and Michael is very friendly and attentive to the needs to the guests right from dietary requirements, to guiding guests to places of interest, to helping in getting dinner reservations. Carols serves a great breakfast each morning along with free freshly baked cookies and beverages through the stay.

Since the property is right in the wooded area, we were lucky to sight a bear right in the garden area, living true to its name! The deck is wonderful day/night with a view of the forest, mountains or the clear sky with a maze of stars.

Overall, its a wonderful place for a getaway, though next time we would definitely go back for a longer stay!

We had a truly wonderful experience. The views, ambience and hospitality added to the top notch class of the accomodations. Wildlife viewing was certainly a plus. (we personally saw moose, black bear, turkeys, etc). Kudos to the hosts, they were most cordial and prepared excellent breakfasts. I would highly recommend this B&B and will most definitely return.

We booked a two night stay at Bear Mountain and wished we could have stayed for longer. Carol and Michael are charming hosts and make you really feel at home. They provide excellent hospitality at any time of the day. They are knowledgeable about the local area and can recommend good places to eat. We have voted them Best Innkeepers in the USA.
Bear Mountain is a very comfortable log cabin. It has tremendous views from the deck of Mount Washington and is in a quiet location. It is an ideal location to explore the White Mountains. We stayed in Moose Hollow which was very comfortable. During our stay we also looked at the more expensive rooms, such as Bear Den and Whitetail which were large and very comfortable and would be worth the extra money if you were staying for longer or were celebrating a special occasion.
Breakfasts were good and changed each day.

we stayed at bearmountain lodge in late august. the lodge felt brand new and was extremely clean and well kept. room was large and had slate tile in bathroom and a great steam shower. bed was extremely comfortable and the fireplace gave the room a romantic setting. Inn keepers mike and carol were friendly and looked after our every need. breakfasts were well done and showed imagination. main lodge was beautiful with fab. views of the white mountains from either the deck or the main lodge. surroundings were peaceful as the lodge is outside of town. (but still close to restaurants and hiking etc) since there are not a lot of rooms it is a very intimate setting and we enjoyed good conversation with our fellow guests. we stay at b&bs regularly and enjoyed it. We would stay there again with no hesitation.

My husband and I stayed at the Bear Mountain Lodge in early August 2007 and had an enjoyable time. The lodge is quite beautiful and great care and detail went into building it. We stayed in the Wild Turkey Suite, which was a very private ground level suite, complete with a Jacuzzi and a walk out patio. The view from our room was wonderful as were the views from the deck and common areas upstairs(Mt. Washington can be clearly seen—even the Cog Railway!) . Mike and Carol were gracious hosts and provided amenities to help make a vacation a relaxing one—such as complimentary drinks in the snack area (as well as freshly baked items), and a nighttime campfire under the vast New Hampshire stars. We enjoyed our stay and the daily breakfast was yummy!! While other towns and activities were reasonably close by, the lodge itself it set back from the road and we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the woods.
A great quiet getaway with majestic mountain views, we plan to stay here again on our next trip north!
