“Wonderful!”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

This was our first trip to Bear Mountain Lodge, but won't be our last. We booked based on the pictures and info on the website and, to tell the truth, the pictures don't do it justice. We were welcomed at the door by Michael and made to feel welcome from the very first moment. The lodge is spectacular, the views outstanding, and the care and service first rate. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Bring a night light or two - the rooms are large and the only night light is in the bathroom.

Green Features: Even tho NH as a whole is not a recycle friendly state, Michael and Carol go out of their way to be as environmentally friendly as can possibly be.

When an inn has hundreds of 5 start reviews how can you add anything new without sounding redundant? I will say that every one of those top reviews are right on the mark. We have been to 38 different inns and this has to be one of the top ones. The place was immaculate, fantastic views and, being a real log cabin, it had it's own unique charm. But that's only the half of it. The innkeepers, Mike and Carol, are among the best. Carol's cooking was great. And for Mike, he won't need an introduction. Within seconds of meeting him, you will think you ran into a long lost friend. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this inn. Give it a try. You won't be sorry.

Green Features: They recycle and are partnership with Clean World to help reduce waste.

My husband and I recently stayed a week at the lodge to celebrate our 25th anniversary and have a vow renewal ceremony. We had never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. The lodge exceeded our expectations! We stayed in the Wild Turkey room and it was like having our own mini suite. Everything was extremely clean and the food was wonderful. My favorite breakfast was the orange infused French toast. Mike and Carol are wonderful hosts. They were always available to answer any questions we had, from activities in the area to restaurant recommendations. They made our vacation and renewal ceremony very special. This is one of the best vacations we’ve had and we can’t wait to return!

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary by spending 4 nights in the Eagle's Nest room. Being someone who is very cautious about B & B's, (I can be a little on the anti-social side, don't like sharing bathrooms, etc), this lodge not only met, but exceeded our expectations. The size of the lodge and the rustic decor are perfect. The grounds and views are beautiful. Everything was spotlessly CLEAN, warm, cozy and RELAXING. Of particular appeal to me was the breakfast set up; you're not sitting at a large dining room table in Grandma's old dining room. There are individual tables as you would find in a restaurant, logistically placed distance between tables allow you to keep to yourselves during breakfast, OR soclialize with other guests without having to move. I was enjoying myself so much, I actually spoke to other guests and socialized, but in no way felt pressured to do so. Carol is a fantastic cook and the breakfasts were out of this world. Carol putting out homemade cookies or fudge for mid afternoon snack was such a homey, considerate touch, I felt like a little kid again wanting to rush back to the lodge after being out all day just to see what had just come out of the oven. Mike is his own floor show, really and truly. He makes you comfortable, he makes you laugh, he's not intrusive, but somehow always there when you need something. All you have to do is mention a restaurant and he's already on the phone making reservations for you. We did not want to leave and we can't wait to go back. Checking out the calendar as we speak for the next excuse to get away....Valentine's day, birthday, so many reasons!! Really and truly, do not miss this place. You won't be disapponted.

Room Tip: Eagle's Nest and Wild Turkey have beautiful views of the mountains, in room 2 people jacuzzi'...

We so enjoyed having you stay with us and celebrate your special anniversary. Some guests check-in and have no interaction with us and we respect that everyone is different. So long as their needs are met, we're happy that they've enjoyed their stay. You both were a joy to get to know and glad that Bear Mountain Lodge met your expectations and you felt comfortable enough to come out of your shell and socialize.

When designing the Lodge we setup the dining room so that guests can have their own private space and decide if they want to engage with other guests or not. We don't have one giant table forcing you to be social in case you're just not in the mood - when we get away we like to have our private time at breakfast together as we plan our day so we made sure our guests have the same ability.

Breakfasts and afternoon treats are our specialty and the maple fudge was a big hit this season. A recent guest review dinged us as a 3 because two of their three breakfasts were sweet dishes. In order to try to meet everyone's likes, I alternate a sweet dish one day and a savory dish the other. The starter course is sometimes sweet, sometimes fruit, sometimes a yogurt parfait with Carol's homemade blueberry sauce. It all depends what is available at our one supermarket here in the North Country -- sometimes the fresh fruit just isn't good enough to serve guests. So we're happy that we obviously met your likes over your four day visit with a good mixture of sweet and savory.

We look forward to having you stay with us again - perhaps Valentine's Day will be a good time to visit again. Take care.

Carol

We stayed at the lodge for three nights. Mike and Carol were fantastic hosts. Very welcoming and helpful with directions to locations, restaurant suggestions, and making sure we had everything we needed. I've never felt more comfortable as an inn guest than I did in their home. The room was pristine, the breakfasts were wonderful, and the views from the property are stunning. I especially enjoyed how easy it was to separate yourself from the other guests and some enjoy quiet time. We took full advantage of the downstairs rec room, having drinks and a few games of pool in the evening. Bethlehem itself is a great location. It's a quiet little town that provides access to the scenic spots and great hiking down around the Notch as well as the more touristy bustle of North Conway. We'll definitely be staying here again!

What a fabulous review, thanks so much. Many times we get asked if there's anything to do in Bethlehem, that it seems so quiet. You've answered it for all of our future guests. This side of the White Mountains focuses on having great access to our beautiful natural surroundings - we don't have outlets but cute family-run stores and galleries. And Franconia Notch and the Flume Gorge are not to be missed, as well as any of the trails all located within 20 minutes of the Lodge.

It's always a treat for us to hear that guests enjoyed our hospitality, breakfasts and just being at the Lodge. With only 9 rooms and three different floors of common space, as well as the huge deck and backyard, it's very easy for our guests to spread out and enjoy their quiet time away together. We look forward to your next visit.

We stayed at Bear Mountain Lodge for three days. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. The lodge is perfectly decorated with a wilderness theme which makes it feel so homey. The rooms are immaculately clean. The back yard has a magnificent view of the mountains, including Mt Washington. We will return in the winter to snow shoe on the property paths.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view of the mountains. The indoor spa tub for two is wonderful and can be found in...

We're so happy that you enjoyed your stay and liked the way Carol decorated the Lodge. While it's rustic in some respects, we tried very hard to make it feel cozy and warm. And we have to give a shout-out to our assistants Tammy and Rachel for helping to keep the Lodge so clean - that's all of our top priorities. We are looking forward to a wonderful winter here in the White Mountains and all of our guests can use our free snowshoes to enjoy our onsite trails and even venture off to the Notch for some snowshoe hikes there. We look forward to seeing you back soon.

We stayed at Bear Mount Lodge for 2 nights, the Inn and property is beautiful and serene, and the hosts are really friendly and provide great service. We really enjoyed sitting in the hot tub looking at Mt Washington while the sun was setting, enjoying the peaceful beautiful natural surroundings.

Thanks Bruce for the great review. One of our guests favorite things is to enjoy the hot tub and with no houses between the Lodge and Mt. Washington and the Twin Mtns, it's an absolutely gorgeous spot to watch the sunset - Mt. Washington and Beech Hill actually turn a fabulous pink! Take care.
